Mesquite, NV

Very nice town but not for everyone! - 8/29/2021
Here's my take on Mesquite. I have a home in Orange County, CA and since 2005, a 2nd (vacation) home in St. George. We have spent much time in Mesquite. My daughter bought a home there last year. In the Fall/Winter, it is lovely weather wise. Summers are brutally hot. The people who like (or love) Mesquite tend to be older retired people who like the friendliness of the town and that you can get around the whole place in about 15-20 minutes. What even those folks (at least most) do not like about it is lack of great healthcare options. You really do often need to go to St. George or Vegas. And the town really does need more shops, restaurants and services to accommodate growth. I really don't see the place being ideal for younger people (especially singles) as there is not all that much to do. If you are raising children, the schools get mixed reviews. Home pricing/housing is going up - up - up but is still less than St. George, for the most part. My daughter had wanted to buy in St. George but the market was too red hot to get in at her price point. If you are retired and looking for a small town feel and friendly people (and can tolerate the heat), Mesquite can be a good option. The Sun City Del Webb community is very nice but has gotten pricey. I have never met anyone who lives there who doesn't like it. There are other more affordable options for housing for seniors/retirees in the town. And it is close enough to St. George to make a weekly shopping or other trip up - which many Mesquite residents do.

Wonderful place to retire! - 12/3/2017
We live in SoCal, but bought a home in Ivins in 2005 that we spend getaway time at and possibly plan to retire to. Great place - great people! No regrets. What a love about Ivins is that you can spend so much time outdoors enjoying nature; people are friendly and you can count on home maintenance and delivery people to do good work, on time and at reasonable cost. Lots to do here. Close enough to Vegas if you want some nightlife. The only negative for me is the hot, dry Summers. If you have someplace to flee to in Summer, this is a great place to retire if you love the outdoors.

We live in SoCal. In 2005, we bought a 2nd home in St. George. We plan to retire there. Though we only spend a few months of the year there now, we truly love life in St. George. The scenery and people are great.
I love that you can go just about anywhere and people are courteous. Cost of living is reasonable. Shopping continues to improve year after year. The only negative is the very hot weather months between May-September.

Wonderful Place For Active Boomers and Retirees! - 2/20/2008
Four years ago, my husband and I bought a Split Rock home in the Ivins/St. George area. We live here only part-time as we have a business and home in California. The Utah home is beautiful and we have views of the red rock and are walking distance to Snow Canyon. We love the clean air, wonderful scenery and terrific people. Many (not all) of our neighbors are LDS and they are warm and wonderful people. We have yet to feel any hostility or negative attitudes about our being non-Mormon and from California. What we love, too, is that unlike California, you can count on the service people to show up.One of my neighbors had a heart attack within 6 months of moving here from California. She raved about the health care that she received from one of the local hospital staff. At the area grows, so does the shopping and restaurant choices. The Mall is adequate and has JC Penney and Dillars. And there is a feeling of safety and well-being. We look forward to retiring here in So Utah. There is only one down side - the Summer heat. It does get very hot from June - September.
