Think Twice -
6/21/2018Owensboro is a hot, humid hellhole! The people are not as friendly as I thought they would be...they absolutely destroy the English language, there is NOTHING to do. The water is disgusting, the air quality is bad and everything socially is built around church. I am not religious so that is a problem for me. They're politics is uninformed! It's a narrow-minded place and VERY VERY RED!!! I just do not fit in here! Looking to relocate ASAP!

Weather seems more extreme than you'd think -
10/15/2012I love Colorado Springs! I moved here in January 1968 and now in 2012 I'm 61 and getting ready to retire. Back then the summers were mild, breezy and maybe three weeks in the summer that were really hot, when AC would have been nice. Now you better have it or it is sweltering inside!Temps are over 100 several days during the July-Aug months and it is really uncomfortable. On the other end of the spectrum, the winters can be bitter cold and windy. Not too many days of icy roads but the cold wind can be miserable. Usually one or two snowstorms at best! The winters are just sooo long. They can last from mid-late October, til April.
I'm tossing around the idea of moving somewhere else when I retire next April, but don't know where that would be. I don't like extreme dry heat, don't like extreme cold. Any suggestions?

Used to be a nice place to live -
2/15/2008I moved to Colorado SPrings in the late 60's when there was 60,000 people here. It was the largest city I had every lived in but it was still small potatoes compared to what it is now. With the population (40 years later) approaching 500,000 it is just too much. The traffic is terrible, neverending road construction, road rage and inconciderate drivers. Also the climate is really starting to get to me. It's a lot hotter in the summer here than it was in 1968, seems like a much more desert-like hot to me and in the winter are the far extremes, with way to many days in the single digits for my taste and the cold winds only compound the problem. Everyone thinks of Colorado as such a liberal state...not so. Colorado Springs is a hot bed for organizations, like Focus on the Family, New Life Church and many other world religious organization that tries to dominate the public thinking and voting. Remember Colorado SPrings is where the anti-gay rights amendment was born! Crime is on the rise, the economy is suffering, funds have been cut to city and county entities as well as schools, so police and fire protection as well as the education of our children is suffering. BUT on the UP side, COlorado SPrings is a beautiful city, with a lot of culture, art and the view of the mountains is to die for! As I approch retirement age I am torn, do I stay here where my friendships and support are or do I move closer to my daughter and grandchildren in KY where the cost of living is much lower?
