12/13/2007The prices of single family homes in Sarasota have dropped over the last 12 months. We found a great home at a great price and love it. There are some finally some excellent options for working professionals who want to live here!

12/13/2007My Finance moved here 2 years ago from the upper east side, New York City and I relocated 4 years ago from Pittsburgh. We both love this city! We bought a vintage, mid-century home in a funky, eclectic neighborhood on the eastern edge of downtown. We bike to one of the four Yoga studios nearby, enjoy the outdoor market, eat brunch and relax afterward at Island Park on the Sarasota Bay on most Saturdays. The cultural scene is outstanding as well. There are more art galleries, per capita, than any other city in the country. Sarasota is home to the Florida West Coast Symphony, the Sarasota Ballet of Florida, Sarasota Blues Society, The Jazz Club of Sarasota, Sarasota Film Society, Sarasota Opera House, Florida Studio Theater, The Asolo Repertory Theater, The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, The Players Theater, the Backlot Theater, The Golden Apple Dinner Theater, Ringling Museum of Art and Cà d’Zan Mansion, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Mote Aquarium, G.WIZ, etc. It is a great blend of Beaches and culture. Siesta Key beach has been consistently ranked as one of the 10 best beaches in America. Although, sometimes we prefer to visit Lido Beach for sunset, and then walk to Saint Armands Circle for a bite to eat. The weather is almost always great. We have some of the finest schools around as well. Pine View was ranked as the 6th best High School in the America by US News in 2007. The New College of Florida is the honors school of FSU and it was ranked as the best public liberal arts college in America by US News in 2007. The Ringling College of Art and Design and USF- Sarasota are here too and have great reputations. This city is not a utopia, but it is a great place to live, work and play.

7/4/2006My fiance and are professionals and make good income with no debt. We cannot find a single decent property for around $250,000. It is terrible here!!
