Louisville, KY

Best place to raise a family - 9/2/2014
Louisville is definitely headed in the right direction. It's a large city, with small town feel. The cost of living is great. Housing is cheap compared to other cities of this size. The community is awesome if you find the right one. There is definitely pockets of personalities amongst the community. There isn't too many diverse neighborhoods, but it is getting better. Probably the most diverse areas are Hikes Point and Jtown. Every big city has rough parts, Louisville's rough part is the West End. However the city is making strides to improve the West End. There could be more done, but it is improving. I suggest opening more community centers for the youth.

Most of the money tends to live in the cities east end. There is a good blend of mid to upper mid income levels all throughout the east end. It is probably the best area in Louisville to live. The city is perfect for my family. We are catholic, kids are in Catholic schools, we are middle class, we are involved with our community. It's like one big family and we love it.

The Highlands (bardstown road) is the best area to walk around and enjoy a stroll, drink a beer on the sidewalk and people watch. The Kentucky Derby is the best time of the year to visit due to all of the festivities. The city is at the cross roads within reasonable drive time from other major cities Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Nashville, St. Louis, Chicago. So, going taking a trip to visit these cities isn't too uncommon for Louisvillians. For some odd reason most people I know flocks to the gulf of mexico for vacation (PCB, Destin, Gulf Shores).

Pros: Housing market, community, entrepreneurial potential, park system

Cons: Public schools are not good, socioeconomic divide right down the middle of the city
