Clarks Summit, PA

Great Place to Live
- 6/21/2007
We found this area through "Best Places". When we visited the area we fell in love with it and bought a home. Only about 2 hrs from either NYC or Philly. But, with one of the lowest crime rates in the nation. In fact, we couldn't find a lower crime rate anywhere. Plus, a low cost of living and much lower R.E. taxes than NY (we paid $12,000/yr in NY and now only $4,000/yr with a bigger & better home). We have an above avg educational system where 91% of HS grads go on to college. We have many wonderful outdoor and indoor recreational activities for our 3 children. We have hills, mountains, lakes, great shopping, and a growing job market. Many professionals live here as we have many "affordable" affluent areas. We have several universities nearby including the University of Scranton only 20 minutes away. Great hospitals nearby (we know from needing them several times)&(uncrowded emergency rooms). As of June 2007 we've been here for 3 yrs with no regrets. We used to accept 2 hour traffic jams and nerve wrenching commutes in NYC, but now a 5 minute traffic jam is even unusual. One of the best things in this town are "the friendliest people we've ever found", lots of smiling, helpful, talkative people everywhere we go. We love all of our neighbors all around us. This is also one of the most kid friendly areas anywhere and thus a great place to raise a family. We honestly cannot find or even think of anything negative to say about the Clarks Summit area (we're also including the neighboring towns, Clarks Green, Waverly, and "The Abingtons"). This area is, by far, an undiscovered jewel in Northeast Pennsylvania.
