Uncomfortable summer weather and horrible commutes -
8/23/2019My family moved to the Polo Fields in Cumming in 1999 on a job transfer and moved out of the area to return to WI in 2013. I commuted to Alpharetta, about 12 miles south for six years, then retiring in 2006. The homes in Forsyth county generally look great, but construction quality is generally not very good, with inadequate insulation, cheap windows and doors and overall inferior workmanship. Our heating and AC bills were frighteningly high compared to a comparably-sized home in, WI, the state we moved from. Property and income taxes are low in Forsyth County and so is the crime rate. The roads are congested with traffic, often with no viable alternate route if there is an accident. Too often, if an accident happened during afternoon commutes, it would take 90 minutes or more to drive home from work. The public schools are those of Forsyth County, quite good considering the low property taxes. The area has good recreational opportunities in the nearby GA mountain for biking and hiking. Summers are unbearably hot and humid and, for a number of summers, with inadequate rainfall to sustain the Lake Lanier water levels, resulting in water-use restrictions.
Overall, our family was glad we moved out of the area and back to Washington County, WI, much more peaceful and with four distinct seasons with great spring, summer and fall weather.
