Lyndonville, VT

"Don't eave California to move to Vermont in Decem - 10/14/2018
I was 11years old when our family moved from North Hollywood, California, December, 1960, for the Northeast Kingdom, Vermont. My father was very sick and was told by his doctor, that he needed to make a " drastic " change in his lifestyle. At this time, my Aunt and Uncle, who were in the film industry, we're working on Alfred Hitchcock's movie, " The Trouble With Harry " being filmed in East Burke, Vermont. So as I remember, we picked up and packed up and flew my dad and three dogs to Vermont and crammed my mom, two sisters and me into a brand new '60's Corvaire Monza and headed east. Five days later, we arrived in Bennington, Vt. During the worst winter snow storm in " thirty-two " years. It was the Most Beautiful sight, for an eleven-year old California kid, like me, to ever see. In the last two hours driving north to Lyndonville, my eyes were glued to the windshields watching the snow falling on fields, barns, fences, trees, cars and trucks. I couldn't believe my eyes. When we finally arrived at my aunt's and uncle's house, which it was a General Store and Beauty Parlor, the snow was already 2' of snow, and everything was covered. Lyndonville, Vermont, was a "Great" place for a young boy to grow-up. There was fishing, hiking, skiing, everything a young First Class Boy Scout could ever want or need. When I left California, I was just starting Junior Highschool, with about, 1500 students. I was placed in the same school as my neice, a one-room school house, just up the road, a piece, (seventh grade). In the next spring we moved into our home in East Burke. Just, below Burke Mountain the local ski area. I was now in a two-room school house until I graduated. For high school I attended Lyndon Institute, a College Prep School. Where tuition was paid by Lyndonville, because there was no public highschool. School population was about 500 students from several Counties around Calidonia County. To quote that movie; " It was the Best Year's of My Life ". Fall was my favorite time or season. Can't even begin to describe the color's. The next was Winter. I learned my first year 1960, and never looked back. My Junior year I joined the National Ski Patrol and volunteered at Burke Mtn. I skied on our Ski Team at Lyndon. We competed with all the great school.
