Bozeman, MT

Bozeman natives hate outsiders esp those from CA & CO. Thats Ca & CO's fault. They moved up there to get away from all the progress in those states and then brought it with them and tried to implement those ways. Not many came up from the south. However, once they get to know you, you will be fine. They are quick to help anyone out of a jam. It is a great place to live but expensive. A 3bed/1bath apt in a fourplex will run you about 850.00 and single family home to rent is usually out of the price range for a working family, that runs about 1200.00 to about 1500.00 and I have seen higher.(upwarsd of 3K) They have a great saying that pretty much sums it up "you can't eat the scenery" Wages are low mostly due to it being a college town. But as a town there is a lot to offer. they have tried very hard to keep big box stores at bay.(They have them, they just don't like them messing up the charm of the greater Bozeman area) I have to commend them for that. As a result the downtown area is full of diversity and life. The schools are magnet schools for the most part. The weather is very nice. you can be in the mountains in July and its never above 75. BUT beware the brutal winters and always carry chains and a shovel. Plowing the streets are not a top priority and you can be snowbound for days even in the city proper. Hope that helps and best of luck.

Georgetown, CO

Sleepytown - 6/27/2009
Georgetown is a small historic town worth the trip. If you go, visit the Red Ram. It's really quite a lesson in history. The lower bar still has the door that ran underground to the Red Light district. A GREAT and cheap place to eat is the Swiss Inn. They also have some rooms to let at a good price. They are small but they are clean. My first visit there was forced due to a snowbound Hwy (yes they will close the roads) but it was after visiting this town that I feel in love with the whole area and decided to make Denver (Golden) my home. The homes in that area are over 100 years old and they are built right up the hillside. there are plenty of neat specialty shops around the main section of town to keep one busy for the day.

Golden, CO

When I was in Golden my young children were all in daycare. However, they did have the option of an all day kindercare. The HS seemed to be on par with other towns as far as what is offered, drug issues, rowdy kids, and the three R's. It is a very beautiful place to live. I was right at the foothills of the mountain and was able to watch the para-gliders from my front porch. One word of caution: if you rent be prepared. Deposit is = to one months rent and that one months rent ran us 1400.00 per month for a 3+ bed/1bath. take lots of pictures and document everything they play by Californias rules here. If you are going to buy, take your time looking.

Eureka Springs, AR

I Love Eureka Springs - 6/27/2009
I have been 3 times now over a span of 10 years. Little has changed about the place. It has a certain aura about it. I always feel welcomed and "at home". Tourism and "real world" meld well together. We were married there last year at Angels Amoung Us B&B and stayed a week on the White River at CanUCanoe. Visited Turpentine Creek Rescue. And of course the unique shops and resurants that line the town. It is a beautiful, well kept and clean city. Each spring (well) has been landscaped, as well as the shops and homes. Its just a great place. You do forget the outsidwe world when you are here.

Nice to know that the town I grew up in has not changed much. Glad I moved - but I just changed names of the place I live. I wound up in the twilight zone replica: Hutchinson KS

Tulsa, OK

I do not agree. I grew up around Tulsa and lived there for 2 yrs. Tulsa's "crime rate" has more to do with people not being careful. How can you can sit there and say that one is crime free south of 51? That one "has nothing to worry about"? WOW!!! Do you not understand that the have-nots (North Side) take from the haves (south side) and quite frankly for a city of its size there isn't a mass amount of crime. Try living in a city of 40k and a property theft rate almost as high as Vegas - with none of the cultural perks. Tulsa is a beautiful town and if one is aware it is just as safe as any other town of it's size. I worked at 15th and Lewis in an outdoor tent for Under the Sun Garden Center as well as their south Tulsa location. Crime is everywhere. One location wasn't safer than the other. I too love Tulsa, it is errant to give the impression that it is overrun with crime.

Hutchinson, KS

Small Town, small views - but big on family - 6/23/2009
Sorry guys, if you are looking for a well rounded community with lots to do you may want to stear clear of "Hutch" as the locals call it. Religion is still preached in the classrooms, bibles are handed out on the corner. Most of the populas in this area vote republican only because their parents did. Women are to be seen and not heard. However, if you like that kind of environ then you may like the few cultural highlights that we do have. The Cosmosphere is very good and one would expect to see something of it's size in a more forward thinking local. Carey park and golf course are very beautiful if you can stomach the delapidated buildings on south Main and the surrounding homes to get there. Fun Valley Sports Complex to the west of the city brings in cash for our town with softball and baseball tourney's, and and the largest grain elevator to the east is interesting, as well as, the salt mine. A few years ago waterlines needed to be adressed in the downtown area and after the repairs were completed the shady downtown area was replaced with standard concrete slabs. The attempt at qaint lighting failed as they are so close together one of my relatives from KC remarked that it looked like a runway. Don't bother with the mall. Most of our better shops are on Main St (Apron Strings, Smiths Market, Amelia Bedelia's, Unique On B )or the big box stores. 50% or more of the stores at the mall are empty. We have the main fair for fast food but the truly good food can be found at the Airport Steakhouse, Carls Bar on Main, Bumpers Cafe in S. Hutch and Downtown Sampler above the First National Bank on Main. Anchor Inn has been a standard around here for years but it is a little bland for me. As far as our calender: The luminaries in Hyde Park (next to the fairgrounds) in December is very nice. Some homes will have music and caroling. There is usually a hayride and hot choc. We do have a Cinco de Mayo but it seems to have a low turnout each year, Salt Fest (June)and Hutch Fest (June-July) - Fun things to do with the family and actually was one of the main reasons I moved here.
