Extreme growth has been good but very stressful -
2/12/2019I've lived here since 2011. There are a lot of things I like about the city, but extreme growth has made it exhausting to live here.
BIGGEST PROS:
- Brand new stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues everywhere
- Busy downtown square with many shops, restaurants, music venues
- Several large parks with forested and non-forested trails
- Youthful energy and vitality
- Large weekly community market and annual festivals
BIGGEST CONS:
- Constant road accidents, red-light-running, and major gridlock
- 1+ hr commutes to Fort Worth, Dallas, and/or McKinney
- The entire town is under construction which is constantly changing
- Poor air quality in the summer
- Seems like lots of anxiety, depression, alcoholism, and substance abuse

10/27/2016Hi Mar, thanks for your comment! I do miss a lot of things about Michigan that shaped me growing up -- something about big machinery, big people, lakes, chilly misty Easters, pine trees, and gruff but honest people who have had to work together.
If you happen to see this, let me know if you find a city with a good fit. As for me, I'll probably head back to Texas when I can get the money together. There are a LOT of Michiganders I met down in Denton and north Texas, and I like the people there. And I got used to the constant heat :)
