Truckee, CA

Higher Cost of Living but Worth It - 4/22/2010
Yes, it costs more to live in California. And you don't get paid more necessarily if you live in the mountains- but there are some great jobs here if you have the right skills or profession. I would say a family HH income needs to be around $100K+ in 2010 to get by comfortably- or you can be thrifty. Of course young folks can get by on a lot less. Moderate homes are in the $300 to $500K range- but you can buy a mobile home for $50K. The amenities are why you live here. Skiing, boating, biking, hiking, relaxing, etc. It's a deers or bears in the yard kind of place. This is a nice place to live and a place for non-stop exploring to help keep things lively.

Also, people that enjoy the mountain lifestyle. Lots of retired folks from all over. A great art community too. You come here if you like the mountains and snow- 200" per year, and sound of the wind in Pines. Oh, and the morning sun coming up over Mt. Rose lighting up the Truckee river, ripple by ripple and a train coming in along side from who knows where.

We live in the "Shire"- Glenshire- next to Devonshire.
