Lived in Libby since 1997. Avid rock climber, hiker, snowboarder, hunter and fisherman. I couldn't think of a more perfect place to raise a child.

Best Place on earth - 5/29/2009
I hesitate to give any info....to keep the community small, but it's going to get out none the less. The Libby area has more untouched and rarely traveled forests and Wilderness than anyplace I have been. The Cabinet Mountains Wilderness area had everything an outdoorsman could ask. Hunting, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, mountain climbing, etc, etc. These mountains are rugged, yet very accessible. Libby even has it's own small but tough ski resort....Turner Mountain. They say,"If you can ski Turner, you can ski anywhere." Most of the runs are difficult or expert only, but there are a couple green and blue runs for the less than experienced.

Besides the Cabinet Mountains, there is a nice rock climbing area just 60 miles north called Stone Hill. Stone Hill is comprised of short trad and sport routes, with tons of potential for new routes. Routes currently grade from 5.2 to 5.13b.

Fishing is incredible in the Libby area. Whether you want to float down the majestic Kootenai River and try you hand at catching a world record rainbow trout, or head to the Thompson Chain of Lakes to catch trout, salmon, perch bass, or northern pike, you will enjoy the beauty of the whole place.....as well as the taste of your fish.

If you get a chance to visit, please do. Libby is a wonderful place, to visit or to live.
