Dallas, TX

Living in Dallas - 9/19/2015
DFW is okay. Depends on what you like. Great economy and good place for jobs. It's a business town. That's what built it. But like any major metro area after you've done everything a couple times (eating establishments, bars and clubs, a couple sporting events), not may options. Too flat and hot for me. That gets depressing. Definitely not a place for avid outdoors types. I prefer to be closer to mountains and major bodies of water. Many people living here have weight issues because they eat and drink too much. Too hot a good part of the year to do much outside. Geographically just in the wrong part of the country for me so I will look to head back east.

Charlotte needs a facelift. A facelift of different people. There is just something wrong with peeps here. Still trying to sort it out. It definitely makes for a good sociology experiment. They are trying too hard to be something they're not. Too many wanna-be's. So many here are a wanna be something: Wanna-be yuppie; wanna-be hoity toity; wanna-be gangsta; wanna-be bad ass; the list is endless. It may be rare to meet a real, down to earth person with little to prove. It's unfortunate. The only thing i can conclude at this point is that it is in the water. What else? You would think it would be cool with all the transplants like myself here. But they have the same issues. With the exception of the heavy concentration of NYC/NJ/NE peeps here (who do nothing but complain that CLT is not NYC or Boston), everyone else seems to hail from the dying/dead rust belt towns in the midwest and upstate NY, or some two meal town off the grid somewhere. They come to Charlotte (in some cases reasons unknown- many just grab a job doing whatever)and think it's all that. And because they think CLT is all that, they think they're all that because they're here! That's one of my theories. They're lost. And they thrive on drama. Without it some of them would probably disintegrate. Anyone know a good plastic surgeon?

Charlotte....hmmm - 12/4/2012
I've been in Charlotte for 2 years due to a company relocation. Best summarization I can come up with is that is not a 'bad' place, but certainly isn't the greatest either. Based upon personal experiences I guess. You can find things going on if you look. wouldn't categorize it as 'boring'. Certainly depends on who or what you are. The challenge for me has been the general populace of Charlotte, as so many others have pointed out in one form or another. So one conclusion to draw is that Charlotte is what it is, a young growing city that doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up yet. It can't decide if it wants to be another fast paced southern city like Atlanta, or model itself more closely to a more established older city like one on the northeast I95 corridor. It hasn't matured. And as a result, the inhabitants haven't matured yet either. People are a product of their environment. This is why you will run into so many wanna-be's, cliques, snoots, what have you, individually they have yet to find their place in this town, which can make them annoying. Too much to prove. Chip on the shoulder. It seems that so many folks here, whether they are a native of the area or not, immediately think they have to jump on some kind of bandwagon to be accepted somewhere. It's the epitome of Every Man for Himself, Charlotte style.

Until that day comes, fair warning. Never take people here at face value. They are very shifty.

As others have explained, you might be able to have fun here if you're lucky enough to meet the right open-minded people that like to get out and do things. Most people in Charlotte seem to prefer a very structured, cookie-cutter lifestyle. Go to work, come home, take the kids to soccer practice, go to bed, get up the next morning, do the same thing all over again. In my short experience here people are very boring and very, very, cliquey. 32 going on 62. But to be fair, there are things going on if you can find someone to do them with, and that is the challenge. But it'll never be a SanFran, NY, Philly, or Boston

Charlotte certainly isn't the most happening city in the country, it is young and hasn't grown into itself yet. (Basically it appears to have grown too quick, with too many transplants arriving at one time). You can find things to do in Charlotte almost every night / weekend, it is certainly not dead. There are activities, night spots, choice in entertainment, and it is fairly progressive. A good deal of the elements anyway.

I think what gets boring and uninspiring are THE PEOPLE! It can be so damn cliquish! All the Charlotte natives / southerners stay within their own inner circles. They remain low-profile in the shadow of the nonstop influx of transients coming in. So don't count on being adopted into these folds.

The transplants, making friends with them, well, that's hit and miss. Many of them are either retirees or mid-age professionals that move to Charlotte for a job transfer with their families. Their lives, naturally, are consumed with kids, school, and atypical suburban life.

I agree with many on here, if you're single in Charlotte, it may definitely take a good while to establish your own niche. It's just the culture
