Renee,
Anywhere along the Rio Grande/Bosque area has a lot of green. You should definitely check this area out. Although you aren't going to find lush St. Augustine yards here...there's actually a ton of gardening and local farming (particularly micro farming). Check out Alameda Greenhouse; they are a great starting point for local planting. We are putting in a keyhole garden at our house, as those do really well here as well.

Wow! This is the single best description of Albuquerque I have ever heard. Thank you!

I agree with everything you said! There are so many unique and wonderful things to do in Albuquerque, and it is so easy to get around here with minimal traffic...even at rush hour compared to other cities. There is crime, but having lived in Dallas, Atlanta, & New Orleans it feels about the same. You have to be "heads up" in any city these days. The weather is moderate, with low incidents of mosquitos and fleas (I find ABQ to be the least "buggy" place I've ever lived). Plus you are within a two-hour drive of so many amazing natural wonders!

Love it here! - 4/30/2018
Two years ago I moved to Albuquerque from Dallas, Texas and I love it here! The natural beauty and abundant history are wonderful: from hiking in the Sandia's on the weekends, to exploring the Petroglyphs, to natural monuments like Tent Rocks and the Caldera. There is something educational and/or outdoorsy to do here all the time. The integration of the Native and Spanish cultures affords so many cultural events throughout the year...not to mention the recent paleontology finds. It's funny, because the people who complain about ABQ are from here, but when I ask them about going to all of these wonderful places & events...none of them go! So like anywhere, it's what you make of it.
