Where do I begin. Been here for a few years now and just waiting to retire so I can concentrate on other places. Didn't take more than a year to figure this place out though. The city is $$$ hungry. Coming from a northern state I'm used to maintaining my home by learning to be my own handyman. After buying a typical neglected Florida home here (mistake) I attempted to do some repairs/replacements around the place. Spoke to a neighbor who was kind enough to help me with his pickup and he said "don't let the code enforcement catch you doing anything, they'll get right on you". I really didn't understand what he meant until I was going to buy a window for replacement from a contractor's leftovers. He said "don't let code enforcement see you, they're Vicious!". I've owned my homes ever since my mid 20's in the north and have never dealt with town storm troopers like this. Why even allow a Home Depot or Lowes in town if a homeowner can't even change his own hose faucet or toilet? Oh, it must be the taxes these businesses pay. It's all about the money. And don't think that Florida and PSL property taxes are low like some say. Try $30 per thousand assessed value.

You got it right Crystal. I agree, too much building (the city is money hungry) and not enough to do or jobs. Unless you work for the town.

I think some of the crime here doesn't get reported. A while back there was a shooting at an intersection near my place and never heard/saw details in the paper.

And the trash service price is very high for homeowners unless you're a landlord and get to throw out tons of rubbish/carpets when slug renters leave because of the sky high rip-off rents.

Port st Lucie sucks!!!

Speaking of retarded, there's a 60yr old guy in my PSL neighborhood that flys up and down the street on a mini-bike every day and sometimes night! Rubber marks on roads and hotrods screaming around the streets unchecked. I gues the police would rather spend their time giving speeding tickets on the crosstown or in school zones. Eazy pickin's I guess.

Should be called Port Saint Nazi! - 3/27/2017
This berg is extremely frivolous with their spending, so much so that they keep coming up with ways to squeeze every nickel they can out of their citizens. They have 16 storm troopers that shake-down residents by peering over fences to see if they might have a non-permitted shed or dog house that they can fine them for. Long -time residents tell me they even employ a helicopter to take aerial photos to spy on folks to see if they can rob them. They recently had the nerve to institute a policy of requiring a "permit" to paint your house! How ridiculous is that? It's getting to be like living in a giant HOA. I thought Florida was a conservative state where the government left people alone and respected property rights. I was wrong.
