Brenham, TX

Just visit.

It is spelled "their", as in "their kind", not there. Also, it is cliquish. Maybe "clickish" has something to do with being undecided on whether to click an internet link?

Brenham, it's pretty good - 10/29/2019
Brenham is a typical town of it's size in Texas. The folks are friendly, but like anyplace else, it helps to have a group like a church, VFW, etc to introduce you to the community. The school board operates fairly smoothly within the constraints of its resources. Like all of small town America, there are those who are welcoming and those who are cliquish. There are some manufacturing jobs in the area but the options are limited. A majority of the other jobs are in health care or the service industry.

The rapid expansion of the Houston and Austin metroplexes may rapidly turn Brenham into more of a bedroom community but that remains to be seen. It is centrally located to the major cities and to College Station.

Crime, unemployment, median income, and cost of living are below the median. Drug use is on par with the rest of rural America. It is more apparent in small towns because of the size of the population.

You can be as engaged as you want to be in this town. People will respond to your friendliness in kind. They will also not bother you if you are more of a solitary type.

Bluebell Ice Cream is a big deal in this town as it is one of the major employers. Someone will always take issue with a company they feel has undue influence. From what I've seen they give back to the community whenever possible.

Some of the nicest people I've met in Texas are from Brenham. I think it's a great little town, but not for everyone. You have to want to be there. It's not a place to move if you don't already have employment settled. Most jobs I've seen are entry level and they tend to promote from within. This is great for locals who start at the ground level and work their way up. Most of the managers that I've come across got their degrees in College Station. It's not CS, but I think it is part of Aggieland. If you don't think it is, then it is most definitely a suburb!

Blinn College, is a nice option to have for the odd night class or for keeping your kids local while figuring out how to mortgage their future for the next two years of college.
