4/2/2016The Roanoke area has never been a high growth or business area. That title goes to Northern Va, Charlotte, Raleigh, etc. The Roanoke Valley is a land locked urban area in
the middle of the Blue Ridge Mtns and rather isolated. The railroad dominated Roanoke for decades and it left because of mergers. The future of Roanoke is tied to Va Tech and its
research medical center which just announced a major expansion for up to 1000 students & scientists. Advanced manufacturing companies are building plants with high skilled workers as is the nations 4th largest craft beer brewery, Deschutes who just announced they will
open their east coast distribution center here. All of these 2016 announcements means Roanoke is changing for the better and tourism is seen as a major component in the years ahead.

4/1/2016March 2016 economic development news is bringing an expansion to VaTech Research Institute with 1000 new students & scientists. Tourism continues to
grow with more Hotels and new Amtrak service starting in 2017. Deschutes Brewery is building their east coast facility here and Roanoke beat out 200 cities for its quality of life. A major expansion of advanced manufacturing with better jobs. I would say the comment that Roanoke is not thriving has now changed for the better. There is plenty more traffic fir sure!
