Fredonia, PA

Life in the slow lane.... - 2/10/2010
The charm of living in or around Fredonia is that it is pretty much life in the slow lane. Jobs may be scarce and times hard, but these things are just part of the cycles of life and come and go. Meantime I know many who trust in God and they fear not the gloom and doom of the future. There is a lot of truth in "country folk will survive".
The mixture of the modern farming along side the old farming practices of the Amish unites this community is a special way. Personally, I find that to be able to pull over and watch a team of four draft horses in the field is something everyone should witness. I think that if more people were able to spend a month working in the fields that they would have a deeper appreciation of life and all it's blessings. This is the greatest truth I have learned after moving here from Los Angeles.
One of the things I appreciate most of our little town is that I can drive my truck or ride my horse to run errands! On one very short stretch is the market, laundry mat, bank, post office, and a little diner. The only thing Fredonia really lacks is a closer gas station.
Sometimes when I mail letters or packages, I ride my horse downtown to the post office. My friends and family in the bigger cities get a kick out of finding out that their packages sometimes come via "pony express". But these are the kind of things that make Fredonia a charming and lovely place to live. After fighting traffic jams on the freeways of LA, the traffic jams caused by slow moving buggies is a blessing, keep 'em coming is my motto!
