Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA

Spotsylvania Charm - 9/2/2019
My family has lived in Spotsylvania for 5 years, and we love it! It is part of the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area. There is truly something for everyone here. With the lovely charm of a small town, plus the conveniences of a city, Spotsylvania is ideally located midway between DC and Richmond (approx 60 miles to DC; 50 miles to Richmond). Agreeably it is a bit of a commute to the DC area, but as someone that has lived in many areas in Northern VA, I feel the positives greatly outweigh any negatives. Let's face it, traffic in the DC area is bad no matter where you live. Yes, commuting to the DC area via car can be time consuming, but thankfully, there are two commuter trains (one in Spotsylvania and the other in Fredericksburg) going from Spotsylvania to the DC area. Bottom line, you just have to ask yourself whether you want to live in a more laid back/less stressful area of the metro & have a longer commute if you choose to work in the DC area. Spotsylvania housing prices are quite affordable, & you definitely get more living space & land for your money. It is a great place to raise a family and enjoy nature with beautiful parks and also nearby Lake Anna. The area has great medical facilities, schools, restaurants, shopping, as well as local vineyards and distilleries. Also, appox distance to other beautiful destinations from Spotsy (what the "locals" call it :)): Charlottesville is 60 miles; Virginia Beach 150 miles; Shenandoah Valley 80 miles. Spotsylvania has experienced growth in the time I have lived here and in my opinion, will only continue to do so.
