Gig Harbor, WA

re: Where are the cultured people in WA? - 4/15/20

For those here who have commented about the weather: Please, yes, it's western Washington, and that is the weather here. It is not about Gig Harbor. That is the weather in all of western Washington. If you can't hack it, fine. Move on.
I am currently living in Colorado with 300+ days of sunshine, and I can't complain about the weather here. That said, I long for my home state of Washington, where the landscape is green, vibrant green, and now brown nearly year-round like Colorado. To each his own. I don't fault Coloradans for their love of their state, but I think Washington can't be beat for beauty. I miss all kinds of things that people from other states might not love: the fishy low-tide smell, fresh (I mean fresh) seafood, and most of all that deep green of everything (even the median between the highways).
On Gig Harbor, I grew up there, and I still find it quaint even though it has changed so much since I was a kid. Every time I go back, I must sit at the Tides Tavern and have a beer on their deck, looking out over the harbor. Bliss!

Port Orchard, WA

Melissa, I don't know what you are comparing Port Orchard to when you say house prices are high. Are you comparing it to Bremerton? Or Tacoma?
It is downright cheap compared to nearby Gig Harbor or Poulsbo.
That said, it is a bit redneck for my tastes.

The schools are very good! My boys are 5 and 7, and we have been very appreciative of the high quality of teachers and leadership in the schools. Golden parent are very involved in their kids' education, so they have high standards and the schools meet them.
Golden is one of the few town in metro Denver that has its own "town feel." Lovely downtown area with lots of local events. I wouldn't live anywhere else in the Denver area than Golden! Well worth paying a bit extra for you home to live in this beautiful community!

Golden is a fantastic place to have a family! Close to metro Denver, but close to the mountains and all its recreation.
