Folly Beach, SC

Best kept secret on the coast - 8/17/2009
If you're looking for a place that's not uppity or country club-ish, Folly Beach is THE place to be. It is home to some of the nicest most down to earth people anywhere. It's "feel" is very bohemian. The beach is beautiful and there are great restaurants, fishing holes and many outdoor activities for all. Surfers love it in Folly Beach. It's also fifteen minutes to downtown Charleston so it's very convenient. It's also the beach of choice for Charleston locals. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway to a beautiful beach for your family or as a couple, Folly Beach is a great choice!

If you're looking for a beautiful place to go without any pretense or country club attitude, Folly Beach is the place to go. The people there are the nicest most down to earth people you'll ever meet. The beach is beautiful and the "feel" is very bohemian. There's nothing uppity about Folly Beach. It's relaxing, it has great restaurants, great waves if you like to surf, fantastic fishing, and the beach is awesome! They have lots of different things going on in the downtown area of Folly Beach during the summer. Artisans will come with their arts, crafts, music, etc on different weekends and it's a great way to meet the people and artists there. It's the beach of choice for Charleston locals. If you're looking for a relaxing beach to go and unwind, you're fifteen minutes from the history, sites and restaurants/bars in downtown Charleston. But you can get just about anything you want in Folly Beach and it's a great place to go with family or a significant other and unwind.

Charlotte, NC

Great place to live - 8/17/2009
Charlotte is one of the greatest places in the US to live and I've traveled all over the world and experienced many different cultures so I don't say this lightly. The biggest down side to Charlotte is that there is no water running through the uptown area so you don't have that kind of charm. But we do now have the white water rafting olympic training place so that's cool. But in terms of quality of life, the shopping is fantastic, the arts are wonderful, the sports events are plentiful from NFL to NBA to Nascar, and it's a fantastic place to raise a family. Because Charlotte was undervalued, the property values have not taken the hit that many properties throughout the country have taken. The average cost of a home in Charlotte is only $175,000. You have homes much less and you have million dollar plus mansions to choose from as well. Lake Wylie is 20 minutes south and Lake Norman is 30 minutes north if you like the water. It's 3 hours from the beach and an hour and a half from the mountains. US Airways hub is in Charlotte so it's easy to get in and out of. The traffic like any other big city sucks, and the public school system is not the greatest as we can't seem to get a state government in place that places value on education so our schools are sadly underfunded. Private schools are expensive but provide an excellent education. I lived here as a single person and as a married with kids person, and while it wasn't a great place to be single, I can highly recommend it for families. Taxation in Charlotte is the highest in the state in terms of property taxes at $1.30 per $1000. But it's convenient to live here and there's a lot of southern hospitality here.

Mooresville, NC

Great place to raise a family - 8/17/2009
Mooresville is a great town to raise a family. Taxes are low, the people are nice and the cost of living is manageable. People of all races, incomes and stages in life live there so it's a melting pot. It's not the best place to be if you're single, but it's a great place for a family. The atmosphere is very laid back, as you would expect at a lake community.

Great place to raise a family - 8/17/2009
Mooresville is close enough to Charlotte if you need something from the big city, but insulated enough that you don't have to leave much. If you work in downtown Charlotte, your commute will be awful! At least an hour each way! If you can work out of your home, Mooresville is a beautiful place to live, especially on the lake. We have a small cottage on Lake Norman that we have owned for the past ten years. Our oldest son went to High School at Lake Norman High which is known for being academically challenging. If you like the laid back style of the lake, Mooresville is a great place to live. You have all income levels, all types of people living there, but southern hospitality is a main stay. If you're young and single, this probably isn't the best place to live, but it's a terrific place to raise a family and the taxes are low.
