Yargo Elementary School -
12/18/2011I had reservations about my child attending a Georgia school since at last I heard we are ranked in the lower third of the country. This year has not gone well for a number of reasons my son has developed some negative behaviors and all are attempting to work together to correct his issues. No person in a school should ever feel afraid or scared. The flip side of the coin is how a group of educators, principals and support staff cannot handle one small boy. we as the parents have asked to make sure he gets recess, a snack and to call us at the first sign of trouble. We no longer get that courtesy. We get a call he's suspended for three days. No child left behind means something different. In fairness the staff did meet with us around the table and patted themselves on the back in the meeting "we've done such an excellent job the parents are here." They've made suggestions. My spouse and I looked at each other and said "are they clueless". They honestly think they accomplished something. I made the majority of suggestions and asked the same questions the last three times I spoke to them in passing and on assessment forms. The teachers are very sweet and caring and giving credit when do the very new teacher suggested a different behavior system to decrease confusion which should be very helpful. My oldest child went to Catholic school they seem to do so much more with so much less. The administrators just are not my cup of tea with average student's I am sure they are very comfortable, maybe a little to comfortable. The school district is disappointing with little access to occupational therapy which would be hugely beneficial to a number of students since they are mental health based discipline and address whatever a person does from the time they get up until they go to bed and everything in between. Is it lack of knowledge, understanding or not collaborating with older more experienced or retired professionals for advice. Very disappointing year. Oh and by the way, the other thing that is a little shady is they came over to drop by some paper work and invited themselves to stay. Just ask to come over. Really upset over that and will be sending a letter directly to the board, when I settle down and can be polite. Wish I never left CT with one of the best school systems in the country. We did attend a school system in Reading PA which was phenomenal with services called the Berks Intermediate Unit. WOW WoW
