Bloomington, IN

re: Get me outta here - 9/30/2009
- 12/3/2013
Haa Aimee you rock! below is a review I wrote a month before reading yours for Yahoo.

- I was born in Maine, went to college in Idaho, lived and worked in Florida, North Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana and finally moved here or rather became trapped legally in 2011. Of all those States I listed above (AND ENJOYED!), many are widely considered: racist, backwards, uneducated, poor, miserable and corrupt, Indiana is by FAR the worst State I have ever lived in. I came here to visit friends two years ago and was arrested on three trumped up, bogus charges and threatened with eleven years in prison (do five). I took 6 years of probation instead. Mistake. I should have just done the time and been out of here a year earlier, this State is it's own prison. I have by no means been an angel during my life and have made real mistakes which I am very sorry and accountable for but coming here was the stupidest and most self destructive decision I have ever made in my life.
- I live in a town called Bloomington , which I understand by Indiana standards is some sort of liberal oasis in this sea of redneck, retardation that is the Hoosier State. Bloomington is not a liberal city, there is not one gay bar in the whole damn town, yet the local I.U. enthusiasts LOVE to boast how Bloomington has more gay people per-capita than anywhere else on earth. The cops are evil, people are cold, there is very little music here at all despite the fact that IU boasts The Jacobs School of Music. There is a surprisingly large homeless population which is constantly harassed by the police and funneled in and out of the jails, prisons and the so called "5th floor" mental hospital.
-The absolute, very worst and most frustrating part of living in "Gloomington" IN, is: the constant and rigid indoctrination that Bloomington really IS a cool place. The people here defend it with the same reverence, fear and awe displayed by a battered women or hypnotized cult follower! The PRETENSE is what drives me crazy. At least in Mississippi, Louisiana and other places I have lived they admitted and acknowledged their situation. They were content and comfortable with their ways how ever skewed and these states had incredible food and culture to off set misgivings. The City of Bloomington buries it's head it's in it's own racist, deaf, dumb and blind sands egotism and simultaneously touts it's hideous, headless corpse around proudly like it's the new Castro District of the midwest. The only thing this town doe not try and hide is it's legal and political corruption. The town is an egomaniac with an inferiority complex.
-"If Bloomington was a suburb of San Francisco gay people, black people or anyone different from the many, VERY SCARY, people that live here would drive around it for their own safety and well being. " This a quote from a stand up comedian I saw, originally from here now living in the bay Area.
-My neighbor has a pure white dog, the dog is of course named "Aryan".
-Most recently the state has been pursuing a witch hunt type OUI charge against me for over one year after I blew a .001. Yes that decibel is correct! I was pulled over after changing lanes without a blinker, passed the breathalizer test by seven points to spare. I was taken to the hospital, had my blood drawn and have subsequently had the state testing and retesting that same sample over and over again in vain searching for a conviction. The case has dragged out well over a year. I have not been allowed to travel or leave despite the fact that my job demands it. I was ripped from that job after this incident, incarcerated and forcibly and dangerously taken off my prescribed medication (Lithium) while incarcerated for five days! I was very sick. I have paid thousands of dollars for all this to happen to me here. I have been told by two of the best lawyers here that despite the scientific evidence (provided by the state) which clearly and medically exonerates me that a conviction is very possible based only upon the officer's testimony. Yes Indiana is in the United States.
- Prisoners and incarceration in general here, are the new cash crop for this otherwise sterile and unfruitful slice of hell, creating jobs, grants, federal funding and even more misery to add to an already undeniably chafe location. My probation officer told me that since my arrest for the OUI that this entire last year of my probation will not count, even though I have had to: pee in cups, pay monthly fees, attend out of pocket drug and alcohol classes and make mandatory probation meetings. Even IF my case is dismissed (by their own evidence) at or the day before trial, I will still receive a violation to my probation regardless of my proven innocence for "contact with the police". I have sold my car, I don't drink or do drugs, I stay inside and hide and dream of the day when I can move almost anywhere but here. Indiana has actually made me want to move out of the USA entirely. I no longer feel like living in a Country that includes Indiana. The fact that Indiana exists at all in it's present state is a factual black mark on our already culturally troubled Country.
-Corruption is prevalent, loosely veiled (almost flaunted!) and really a way of life here for it's natives many of whom actually "like" it here! If you ask an Indiana native if they have ever been anywhere else frequently they will answer: "Why would you want to?" If you ask them again, requesting a factual answer most will say: "no", if the answer is: "yes" it's usually Kentucky. This is sometimes called "Stockholm syndrome" and is common with kidnapping victims.
- I have heard a lot of the locals actually making pig noises, uncanny and unnervingly accurate pig squeals. These tributes to Indiana's most metaphoric mascot are mostly made while in the midst of drunken Coors light and early times whisky binges but sometimes for no reason at all. The most popular insults here are Whore ( pr: HIR) for women and Faggot (pr: fay-git) for men.
- Child abuse and very often: child molestation seem to affect three out of every four indigenous Indianians I have met. The most popular drug by far is Meth and I have honestly and truly met more than six people who openly and unprompted, told me about having sexual relations (one Marriage) with immediate family members. This is not just a joke here, it's real.
- The most popular pass times here in Indiana are: Deer Hunting (other animals too), Nascar, Basketball (Watching) and most of ALL breeding. Most Indiana natives will tell you in detail how that "next baby" will solve all your problems and if that dont work than Jesus will. I don't have anything against hunting, nascar, basketball, babies or Jesus…I'm just saying.
- I'm a member (Voluntarily) of a 12 step program geared towards the recovery from addiction and alcoholism. The State of Indiana makes sure that these meetings I attend are over-run with ankle bracelet wearing and court ordered people who simply do not want to be there. They sell dope in the parking lots, talk on phones during meetings and sadly most are only there to satisfy the courts. Many of them do not have any addiction or alcohol problems at all and are victims of this overtly, criminal, and police happy cess pool of biscuits and gravy. Keep in my mind that this large group of people in our meetings (maybe 20% of the meeting) is only a SMALL percentage of people that the courts here are giving an opportunity for a shot at actual rehabilitation. They send them to our 12 step groups because the meetings themselves are free to the State (who is collecting money from the offender) so the State doesn't have pay for real drug rehabs or other educational avenues that would most certainly decrease recidivism rates. Other programs available here cost the offender (guilty or not) their own money. Frequently these meetings, classes and other requirements are mandatory BEFORE a conviction has even been reached. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in immediate re-incarceration which make no mistake IS the ultimate goal. Criminal recidivism with or without actual proof is the formula.
- Most other "backwards" and culturally less fortunate States I know would simply prefer you just: "Stay Out" , "Go Home" or never visit them. Oh quite the contrary, here in Indiana. They would like for you to stay!. Even if they have to force you, This sick and twisted terror-tority will imprison you and eat you alive like some carnivorous, vampirous, mid-western, pork loin, fly trap. Indian can and WILL ensnare you here if your not careful, suck you dry of your assets, finances, and self esteem. We'll keep you away from your loved ones and feed it's fat, nepotistic, xenophobic and somehow malnourished, chewing tobacco packing population your very life blood till your dead or wish you were. Even if you get out, it will find another unwary traveler passing through the "Crossroads of America", legally and maybe literally crucify 'em alive for petty charges, fabricate them if need be, or maybe w'ell just lure your in with the promises of a liberal education at one of our cool and socially diverse "Party Schools" situated right in the middle of the bloated beast's belly. That belly is the outwardly quaint, liberal, fun, artsy and cool town of Bloomington…Come check it out and bring your lawyer.
-Did I mention the weather sucks
