Lake Santeetlah, NC is a small, rural community located in the North Carolina Mountains. With a population of only 105 people, this community offers a unique and intimate experience that is hard to find anywhere else. There are several local businesses that serve the community of Lake Santeetlah such as the popular Lake Santeetlah Store where you can find groceries and other goods; The Hanging Dog Marina which offers docks for boats, boat rentals, and fishing supplies; The Little Tennessee BBQ which serves up some of the best barbecue in town; and Wildwood Properties which specializes in real estate sales and vacation rentals.
In addition to its local businesses, Lake Santeetlah also has plenty of year-round outdoor activities to keep visitors entertained. Visitors can take advantage of hiking trails, fishing spots on Lake Santeetlah and nearby lakes, kayaking opportunities along Fontana River and lakefront sites for camping. Additionally, the Nantahala National Forest borders the community allowing visitors to explore nature preserves with many more activities including rafting down Nantahala River or mountain biking down Tsali trails.
The community also has several organizations dedicated to preserving the environment and supporting locals in their various endeavors. These include Friends of Lake Santeetlah who focus on conserving natural resources through water quality monitoring programs as well as providing educational programs for youth; Graham County Arts Council who showcase local performers at their annual festivals; and The Appalachian Trail Conservancy which provides free access to outdoor recreation along the Appalachian Trail.
Finally, sports enthusiasts will be delighted to know that Lake Santeetlah hosts periodic sporting events throughout the year. Examples include dirt bike competitions at White Oak Mountain Raceway Park; bass fishing tournaments during summer months at nearby Fontana Lake and motor boating races at Cheoah Point Marina during winter months. With so much to do throughout all four seasons, it’s no surprise why this small mountain village remains a popular destination for many outdoor adventurers!
