West Memphis, AR is a small city that has relatively limited political involvement. It is represented by Congressman Rick Crawford (R) in the US House of Representatives. At the state level, Senator Keith Ingram (D) and Representative Reginald Murdock (D) represent West Memphis in the Arkansas State Legislature. Both hold staunchly progressive positions and have worked to bring issues such as education reform to the state legislature floor. Additionally, local government leadership includes Mayor Marco McClendon, who was elected in 2018 after five years on the City Council. Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).
