Needham, MA is a town in Norfolk County, located just west of Boston. As of 2019, the estimated population of Needham was 31,000 people. The town has a rich history dating back to its incorporation in 1711 and is known for having excellent schools that consistently rank among the best in the state. On the political front, Needham is largely a Democratic stronghold with many residents strongly supporting progressive values. Local elections are typically competitive between Democratic and Republican candidates. The mayor of Needham is currently Charles J. Gaffney Jr., a Democrat who was elected to office in 2019 and will serve until 2023. The Town Council also holds five members which are all Democrats. In addition, Needham has sent Democrats to represent them on both the Massachusetts State Senate and House of Representatives since 1992.
