Vancouver, WA is a vibrant city located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is home to several universities and businesses that contribute to its booming economy. Politically, Vancouver is a part of Washington state’s 18th Legislative District and is represented at the federal level by U.S. Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler and U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, both Democrats. At the state level, Vancouver’s representatives are Senators Ann Rivers and Lynda Wilson (Republicans) and Representatives Monica Stonier (Democrat) and Vicki Kraft (Republican). Locally, Vancouver has a mayor-council form of government with Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle presiding over six council members: Bart Hansen, Ty Stober, Alishia Topper, Bill Turlay, Julie Olson and Larry Smith. Residents of Vancouver can participate in politics by attending city council meetings or volunteering for local campaigns during election season.

How It Works:
Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.

In the last six elections the state has been closely contested, voting narrowly for the Republican Party candidate in 2016 and 2020 after voting for the Democratic Party in 2008 and 2012. Virginia (r r d d d D) has voted for the Democratic Party in the last three elections.

This city has traffic similar to Seattle. I think some drivers here are aggressive and are not able to stay calm under stress. Although the rent prices seem reasonable I  More

Plus no pone wants a new bridge it has been voted down a thousand times but now the city of Vancouver is going to try and sneak one in anyway and the nice small feeling  More

The city is corrupt, department heads taking bribes, 2 yr community college almost destroyed because the faculty are making it into a 4 yr college. Mormon corruption  More
