Yellow Medicine County, located in the southwestern corner of Minnesota, is a rural area with a population of approximately 9,200 people. The county seat is Granite Falls and it includes several other small towns including Hanley Falls, Canby, and Clarkfield. The local government of Yellow Medicine County is led by a five-member Board of Commissioners elected to serve four-year terms. The position is non-partisan and candidates are elected at large from within the county. Other political positions in the county include two Minnesota State Senate districts represented by Republicans and two State House districts represented by Democrats. Several villages in the county also elect their own mayors and city councils to provide their own local governance. All of these roles are filled through nonpartisan elections.
