Temecula - 12/25/2023

I’ve lived in the city for about 69 years and it’s great. Way better than Murrieta. Temecula has stuff to do unlike Murrieta. Temecula has wineries and a mall.

Temecula is the place to Be!!! - 8/25/2022

I’ve owned in San Diego, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Big Bear, and now Temecula in both 2010-2013 & 2020-2022. This city is absolutely amazing, it is at the edge of San Diego County, has the best weather of Riverside County, and has amenities beyond anything found in Riverside and most of San Diego County. 1.5 hrs to LA & attractions, 1 hour from San Diego City & attractions, 25-30 minutes from the beach. Schools are better than anything found within 100 miles and most of the US. It’s by far the most beautiful city I’ve ever lived, yes it has no beaches but your 25 miles to Oceanside and about the same in minutes from the beach. Much cooler weather and scenery than most of all Southern California, it’s just beautiful and has about everything you’d ever want 25 to 55, without a doubt.

Reasonable for California - 7/29/2022

The mountains/hills are pretty, and it is less expensive than Los Angeles. There is next to nothing to do here if you aren't a Baby Boomer or a kid. However, it is a safe community. As someone who grew up in another state and has lived elsewhere, I'd say it is not worth the cost, unless you work in San Diego/Orange County and can't afford there. Then it probably makes 110% sense. That seems to be the crowd they build houses for--it's a commuter town. I wouldn't recommend the commute as someone from elsewhere. I'd live in San Diego if I worked there even if I had to rent and if I had a kid, I just wouldn't move to California period unless I had a fat trust fund and/or worked for Google and could afford private school. I wouldn't want to be stressed from the drive all the time when I got home too. If this is your normal it may not be a big deal, but for me as someone from regular America, a commute beyond about 20 minutes with a bunch of people driving like super aggressive A-holes isn't for me. Grandma's cut people off in traffic here and the police are called proactive but don't seem to be many places and police anything over 10 over the limit. Yesterday I saw a drag race with three motorcycles and a Dodge Challenger in the suburbs. There are many other places to live in America with way more luxury/house for your money. There is not enough inventory of affordable housing, so you need to be solid middle/upper middle class and bought a long time ago or upper middle/upper class now to afford it. It is nice to be able to take a day trip to the beach if you don't mind congested and stressful traffic. It's very corporate and not small business friendly and there are few professional jobs. Don't move here unless you already have millions or a job. My wife had a job when we moved and despite the fact I'm in the less than 2% of the population that has a professional degree, I can't find anything. There are a lot of government employees with fat pensions and people who bought in a long time ago. Not a Millenials friendly place at all. If you are religious there are many evangelical people here and they're pretty zealous about it. It is a very diverse community for me. If you are from California it may not be comparatively. There are many Trump signs and all and besides complaints about gas prices at the gas station, I don't hear much about politics. It seems like a bunch of older people trying to quietly live out their golden years and middle class families with kids. People are more pretensious than many places in America but probably not compared to elsewhere in California. There is a big military, veteran vibe here. The air quality is poor and once you reach California you'll notice it. I didn't see it in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas etc. It's like a haze that reminds me of China. The sunsets are pretty. The air balloons are pretty. The houses are all plane vanilla tract homes not custom designed with unique architectural plans and still cost like $800,000. The water tastes bad if coming from out of state. Tastes kinda salty/mineralized. Ultimately, I'd like to move personally and get a custom house three times the size in Texas, have cheap gas, and I can access the mountains and beaches on vacations. The water is cold and rocky here and the sand isn't pretty like in Florida. If you have tattoos and look like a hipster, punk rocker, or like you work on motorcycle repair on the West Coast Customs show you will fit in. For me, I feel like people judge me for being "too conventional." I try to just stick to myself and travel and enjoy my friends elsewhere. I'd like to meet some cool local people but have no idea how to. Old Town and wine country is pretty cool, but I don't drink. Wine country seems to focus on the Boomers which is smart business. Don't move here if you're single I hear. People are nice for California. I find Californians to be some of the rudest people I've ever encountered in the US, like they expect you to try to rob/rip them off instead of are just trying to say hello and meet people. It might be smart though I may be from a small and sheltered kind of place. My wife likes the people at work. People have been very nice to her for the most part. People aren't racist I don't think. It seems to have that stereotype, and I don't find it to be true largely at least.

Lack of Infrastructure and LOTS of TRAFFIC - 2/1/2022

Lived in the city since 1992. Too much growth now. City Hall has failed to build/design proper infrastructure to accommodate the large amount of traffic, which sadly has made the area more LA like. Moved here to get away from Los Angeles, not to be a part of a new one. City has gotten out of control in building apartments, which brings more traffic. This area has lost its small town charm. Luckily, we found a new place that has much better "quality of life" than the Temecula area.

Still a great town, but traffic and overbuilding - 9/3/2021

This was where my husband and I grew up and we returned to raise our children there. It was an excellent choice and this is still an ideal place to raise children. The public schools are fantastic, there are tons of activities for kids to participate in and it's close enough to make day trips to the beach or mountains. It's green and well-kept and everyone's perfectly nice. Would I move back? Probably not. Every time we drive into visit the old hometown we hit a wall of traffic on our way in. The last time we went to Old Town it was jam packed with drunken partiers. Don't get me started on the wine tourists. We thought we were dying of boredom back in the olden days, and would have killed for the mall, restaurants, etc. that are available now. Reading about other towns, it seems to be the same old story of wishing things stayed the same as before. I'm glad we found a California town to live in now that's similar to Temecula of the 70's and 80's, but that's just me.

Best large city in the area. w/ Gridlock traffic - 12/23/2018

Temecula is really pretty nice place, it has everything you need and most of it has modern buildings. They generally take care of it, so it looks fresh. Compared to other places around, Temecula is the most desirable place to be. All of the other cities around can be really nasty. Murrietta, Hemet, Lake Elsinore are all just nasty compared to Temecula. South of Temecula, it gets really bad. San Marcos, Vista, Escondido. Lots of Apartments and poor Hispanics in those areas. Fallbrook is the only small town that is decent thats in the area. Here is the negative about Temecula. People and traffic. Putting aside the fact that the I-15 is Hell, the Temecula main streets are also jammed often. But hey, you chose SoCal and thats what you get. Bottom line: Best larger city in the area, if you like this area. (I personally liked smaller Fallbrook better.) Weather is a bit more extreme than say Fallbrook. Hotter highs and lower lows. Had a big snow storm awhile back that was a Super rare event.

Life in Temecula - 10/19/2016

We have been here since 1987 and have loved it. Now, almost 30 years later, it has grown to traffic congestion, tract after tract of huge homes on tiny lots and still no real 'career' jobs. We still love the beauty of the area, the central location to everything from beach to mountains to desert, but it is not small business-friendly (Riverside County in general), and promotes chain stores, which people love here. We just love our neighborhood and our home in the very southern tip (used to be San Diego County years ago) of the city, but we are planning, if things work out, to move back to the Monterey Bay/Carmel area within the next 5 years because of the weather being cooler, the people being more 'creative/artistic/nature-loving' and the more laid-back feeling. It's a tough, tough town to make a living in; people mostly either have 1-2 hour commute or struggle in small businesses. Yes, chains like Starbucks and Target/Wal-Mart rule here. Sad but true. We have loved being here...it is physically gorgeous, especially the South West side of the 15 Fwy, in the hills. If we aren't able to afford the housing back in Monterey Co. we will stay and be happy here...it is beautiful, weather mostly very nice, very hot and dry in summers. I call it a 'dew drop' kind of place...like God just dropped some dew right 'here'. Man is messing it up.

Temecula, CA: Still a jewel. - 12/19/2014

Temecula is one of the best run cities in Southern California. I moved here over a decade ago when the population was about 60,000. The city is about 30 square miles and has its neighbor, Murrieta to the north. Both cities now have populations of about 100,000 for a total of 200,000 regionally. The good that comes with that is all the ammenities an area of that size brings, such as shopping, dining and entertainment. The bad, of course is increased traffic, but the crime rate here remains quite low. Temecula has very good schools. The city boasts a fabulous Old Town shopping and dining area, a state of the art indoor / outdoor shopping mall with great restaurants, The Temecula Wine Country with over 40 great wineries to choose from. The area is also home to the Pechanga Casino. We have great weather and although being relatively close to the ocean, our local mountain range holds back the coastal fog on most days. We are about 1000 feet above sea level so we do tend to be cooler in the winters than neighboring areas such as Orange County and San Diego County. The city has a proactive police force as well as a very well staffed fire department. There are several nearby hospitals and Temecula recently opened their own. San Diego is about 45 minutes to one hour south with numerous employers. Airports to use are either Ontario International or San Diego International. We have no light rail but we do have commuter bus service to metro areas. This town is a win.

Great place to raise a family - 4/30/2014

I've lived in Temecula since 1989 and it's the absolute best place to raise a family. Schools are top notch, park system is outstanding, crime is low and we have a well run city council. It is by far the best city to live in Riverside County. Common areas throughout the city are well landscaped, Old Town is a favorite destination to go out for the night or shopping. 10 golf courses within 20 minutes, over 30 wineries to spend a day at and hot air balloons fill the sky every morning. Home prices are 30-40% cheaper than San Diego or Orange County. The worst thing about the area is traffic if you have to commute to San Diego, LA or Orange County. It is a well run city that has a lot to offer.

Great Place to Live - 10/2/2012

We have lived in Michigan, Colorado, Hawaii, and Florida -- But, our favorite place to winter is Temecula, CA. The people are authentically friendly and the area offers a gorgeous atomosphere. There are always flowers blooming and the citrus cannot be beat. The vineyards offer excellent exposure to new wines and the shopping leaves nothing to be desired. A little too hot for us in the summer months, but fall, winter and spring are absolutely wonderful ! Could use a little more cultural enrichment, but we think this is only a matter of time. The Old Town is a perfect venue for more art galleries & unique shops.

fell in love with Temecula - 7/10/2012

Hi~ I came for a visit a couple times (2011 & recently July '12) in Temecula with a friend. Went to Old town, liked it.. Came back a few weeks ago for a few days, went to the wineries, the weather is great.. it seems like everytime I come here I have this feeling of wanting to live here. I have lived in the bay area for 16 some years. I have been to several places to check and see if the place is a great place to raise children.. This is the only place I feel like it's pulling me in. I find that people are mostly friendly. Housing to me is much affordable compare to where I live now. It feels like a great place to raise my teenager and gradeschooler. My ONLY concern are JOBS!! I have been in the medical field for a long time and has a very stable job "quote on quote...Went on CL's and checked out jobs in this area and seems like there is none around... My friend told me it's the most safest city to live..

Why Temecula - 9/24/2011

My husband and I have lived in many places in the U.S. Hawaii, being one of our favorites, was extremely expensive and we felt like we were too far away from family. Temecula is very similar to Hawaii and Italy. It has a beautiful Mediterranean climate, while we can still grow just about anything - including palm trees. The people in Temecula have been extremely nice to us "newcomers". We find most to be hard working and possess integrity and honesty. They seem educated and aware, while still kind and caring. It offers us hiking, biking and peaceful living.

To Us, It's Heaven - 3/31/2011

My husband and I have been all over the country and out of the country trying to find the right place to retire. The two places we came up with are: Italy and Temecula, CA. We settled on Temecula, because it is still in the U.S. and we cannot speak Italian -- that rules out Italy. After living in Colorado, Florida, Michigan and Hawaii , Temecula is by far the better choice for us. We find the people to be very friendly and genuine, for the most part. Most have great manners and seem very honest. The weather is outstanding...especially in the hills above the town. West of town the weather is even more moderate and mild. Everything grows there -- roses, avocados, lemons, oranges, grapes, flowers of every kind -- something is always blooming. The Old Town is quaint and not too upscale for our tastes. It offers us everything we need/want. Close to the ocean, a few small lakes, enough shopping and a myriad of restaurant venues.

Don't - 1/21/2011

Temecula is a nice place but the city planners have messed it up. I have lived here since 1986 and I have seen some roads widened three times. It takes forever to get to and from one side of town to the other.
