Best area to live in, in Canyon Lake - 12/29/2011

I'm looking at inexpensive real estate (85-150k) in Canyon Lake in hopes of retiring in 2012. Seems no matter what town/city you live in, some parts of the town are seedier than others. I am a middle aged, single white female and am wondering if there is a part of Canyon Lake I might not want to be looking at houses. I've seen and love many on a street called Eastview. Can someone help me out with any advice? I'm moving from Houston although born in Austin and raised in SA, so I feel qualified to return to the area. :-) Houston is seedy overall and this is what I'm trying to escape! I want to live in the safest and quietest section of Canyon Lake.

Lots of things to like, and few not too. - 11/17/2011

Canyon Lake is a beautiful area located just one hour from Austin, 40 minutes from San Antonio and 15 miles from New Braunfels. Location a big plus, rolling hills, beautiful clean blue lake and cold river water. Housing costs are reasonable, the area is safe and peaceful, country living with cities close by. There is an ampitheatre which brings in big name groups, but they are only open during the summer which makes NO SENSE because it get soooo hot, no one wants to leave the house much less to go outside to listen to live music. So you know what they say in real estate, location, location, location. BUT...there are a few things you will miss, like your family. Most of your offspring live in larger cities for job opportunities, so it can get a little boring and lonely. And it seems that after you get used to the quiet and free flowing traffic and have to drive into the city, well your nerves are just not what they used to be. The one big thing the area is missing is a pharmacy, a full size grocery store and a few of the fast food restaurants we all need from time to time. Yes, it does have a Dairy Queen and McDonalds, but needs like a Sonic or Taco Bell or WHAT A BURGER! Seems the big guys are afraid to make a move, but once they do? lookout who is next because the cost of real estate will skyrocket. Why? because there is not very much commercial frontage here, and the little that is available, cost a lot to develope. However that did not stop the big guys from going to Lakeway and now look at that goldmine and it didn't take that long. Wow now that I said that, just stay were you are big guys cause I really don't want this to be another Lake Travis, those people are actually moving here cause it too expensive and congested there. :D

Living in canyon Lake - 4/25/2010

Canyon Lake is great, friendly people, clean, safe...the main problem is that you must travel fifteen miles to find major stores or supermarkets.
