Massive ignorance. I was attracted to this town because it's small, easy to get around and there's a Walmart, grocery store, post office, library, mechanic and a bad police department. MonkeyShines laundromat is clean and monitored by a cowboy named Randy who's a nice guy. Westar printing is great for copies and printing. But as others have written, it's cliquey--almost everyone is related and there are a lot of LDS. Most of the people running the businesses seem mean. Unless you fit right in it will be hard to find a job or anyone you want to be friends with. After two years here, am leaving and will not be back. Life is too short.

| You're not from here? Then you're not welcome. - 5/16/2020
I moved here in 2016. That was probably a mistake, which I hope to fix very soon.
Positives: quiet place, no traffic issues, WY has no income tax. There are two really nice things about Evanston: the Bear River State Park is small but really nice for walks or picnics; and the Evanston Recreation Center, which has pretty much all the facilities you could ask for, including two really nice swimming pools. The staff there are all very nice.
Negatives: people here are not friendly. I've tried really hard to get involved in the community, offering to volunteer at a dozen or so local charities and places that said they needed volunteers, but then got the question, "you're not from here, are you?" and suddenly they no longer needed volunteers. I've met a grand total of 3 people in town that have bothered to learn my name and treat me like a neighbor (and all of them were met in a commercial environment.) As someone else said in another review, a few families pretty much run the town and they all belong to the Mormon Church, so if you've got the wrong last name and belong to the wrong church, you're out of luck here. Evanston is a very clannish, closed community.
Another thing to consider is the wind. And when I say wind, I would say it is very windy here about 75% of the time. Summer is also very short here, with long, cold, snowy winters. If you don't mind the weather, and you're not sociable at all, you might like it here.

| Beautiful town just 80 miles north of Salt Lake - 12/16/2019
Evanston is a beautiful little town right on the border of Utah. It's a clean community that honors its history by re-purposing some of their historic buildings. The state park is home to Bison, Elk and other native species. The Bear River Greenway path is incredible for walking, running, biking ,etc. The summers are gorgeous, highly recommend!

| One of the best places to live - 7/22/2013
Small town of 12,000 65-miles East of Salt Lake City UT. On I-80. 6 traffic lights in town and rush hour is 3-4 vehicles in front of you. Fresh air that actually smells good and easy shopping (even Super Walmart), park within 100' of any store, anytime. The only drawback: High altitude is hard on people such as myself with breathing disorders. I had planned on living out my life here, since '95 but my oxygen level tells me different and I am forced to move to lower ground. :+(
