Frisco Texas sister city Irvine California ? - 1/23/2023

If I had to select a sister city that reminds me of Frisco, it would be Irvine California in the county of Orange. Super safe city, great police and school districts, arts, sports, colleges, gated upscale homes nice shopping and restaurants, location is excellent 25 min to two major airports, nearby lakes, golf, hike and bike trails. A ton of park and open spaces. Modern corporate complexes and medium to high rise beautiful shiny towers. What’s not to love? Well the weather definitely isn’t California but it’s always 2-5 degrees cooler than dallas in the summer, more rain than dallas as well, winters are cool but not horrible, annual freezes are the pits as it wipes out all green. Since I moved to Frisco from Irvine in 2019 I’ve been quite impressed and have fallen in love with it. I’d never go back to Irvine or likely anywhere in California.

Paradise in North Texas - 7/17/2022

I have lived here for 25 years, honestly, its the safest, most clean place in the USA. You just cant go wrong moving here. Many of the low rankings on this site are jealous folks in DFW area, I see it often.

Overhyped city - 4/24/2022

Most overhyped city in the area. I wrote another post detailing this but wasn’t posted here for some reason. They purposely overhype the city through any means possible and because of it this crowded no identity town is almost 30-40% more expensive than its border cities that in some cases are literally less than 15 minutes away from their overhyped shopping centers which should be only 5 minutes if not because of their crazy traffic.

Very overrated city - 4/23/2022

I agree that it’s a very overrated city but it’s done by design. The way they push PGA relocating you would think it was Apple that was moving yet it may bring 100 jobs and 1-2 golf tournaments. The main problem is that Frisco has no identity and tries to copy the good of every city. The Mayor admitted he wanted high rises once he saw them across the street in Plano. They want to outperform Dallas when it comes to sports and duplicate McKinney’s historic downtown but have nothing unique to show. This has led to so many chains move to the city due to insane tax breaks which is causing the once small feeling relax city to become crazy busy and hectic and ok to visit but not a place to call home.

City living with country charm - 10/31/2020

I have been a Frisco resident since 1983 off and on. I am on my second home here. Moved away breifly between wives but always returning here to call home. I have significant difficulty calling anywhere else home. Simply stated Frisco is city living with country charm. Big enough to provide all the amenities of the big city but small enough to still provide that personal touch that is often lost in the bigger communities. The schools are the real jems. I have a third grader and I am often provided updates on her progress; it is a collaborative effort and they genuinely want to hear my input. Not just to shine me on.

Generic suburb full of the status-obsessed. - 12/19/2018

Never really understood why Frisco was so popular. It's easily the most overhyped, overpriced, and overrated suburb in the Metroplex. It's surrounded on two sides by toll roads, is in the middle of nowhere, has no public transportation, and the physical setting is flat, bland, and extremely unappealing. Despite all that, people still fall all over themselves to shell out $400k plus to live there. In case you're wondering - that's pretty close to Denver housing prices with absolutely none of the scenic appeal of the Rockies, but hey they have a mall, an IKEA, and a ridiculous number of chain restaurants.

One of the best places in the nation to live. - 7/19/2017

I've lived in Frisco since 1997 and it is one of the best places in the nation to live. Frisco is one of the few cities in the country that has managed to keep that small city atmosphere while continuing to grow. Everything is extremely convenient especially on the south side close to Plano--shopping, hospitals, sports, parks, schools, libraries, and recreation. The water and air are good. People are friendly and the community represents true diversity. Jobs are abundant. Even the roads are nice and wide and very smooth! The police and fire departments are great-- if you ever need them, they are there within minutes (not hours like Dallas or other big cities). Couldn't think of a better place to live. I wrote this initial review in 2017 and Frisco has changed. It is overcrowded and overbuilt and very expensive. Crime is on the rise. There is always traffic. I moved and am not going back.

crime is OK with some. - 11/5/2016

So we moved to Frisco! What a nice place, but the crime is a crying shame. We had a young man in our garage in day light stealing power tools. I had the jump on him and could have left him there for the coroner, but i did not want my son to be in school and a friend of his say my dad is gone he was stealing power tools and my son say oh yea my dad got rid of a guy stealing power tools. So if you don't mind having a guy cut your grass for 2 bucks. Have a guy rob you home in day light, then your good.Unfortunately I called a friend and the 2 bucks to get your grass cut is about to stop the IRS and immigration are now in Frisco documenting activity. Thanks to a power tool thief. Cops are all over this place and are very nice, which makes the power tool thief story worse, he is more than likely not working or can't but stealing right down the street for his family or cash paying hustle he was doing. Next time around I will allow what the military trained me to do the next time someone is in my garage.

Growing Fast - 5/18/2015

Frisco is a great place to live i have lived here for 6 years now and there are lots of great schools and places to go to but Frisco is growing and getting more expensive it may not be Frisco exactly but McKinney and Plano and Frisco are definitely growing because lots of companies are moving here for instance gearbox and Toyota of america sadly me and my family are moving because we will be able to pay of our debt if we do because our house right now is very high priced on the market so yes it is a great place to live but right now the whole fort worth Dallas area is exploding with people coming in.

lovin' Frisco, TX - 2/21/2015

We retired to Frisco from Southern CA. I love it here. Summers are hot for sure but we have a pool, so who cares! Winters offer just enough snow and cold to be fun, not misery. Houses are way less expensive than Westcoast props, so we live in a house that would cost close to two million in SoCal today. Close to DFW, the tollway, shopping, theater and arts. I'm happy!

Counting the days till we LEAVE - 4/21/2013

If you like chain restaurants, bad BBQ and lots of shopping frisco is for you. Every street is 8 lanes, you can't walk anywhere, all the houses look exactly the same and there's nothing interesting to do. All people do here is eat and shop. And diversity is stuck at white people and Mexican people, unless you shop t the Asian markets. I have a one year old daughter and I'd hate to have to actually raise her here. People assume its cheap to live here but I spent less on groceries while living in ct than here...guess that's why everyone eats out. The weather is horrible. The summers are indescribable I've noticed transplants from actual cities hate it here. So if you've lived in Boston, Philly, NYC, D.C., or any other major city (Dallas isn't one) you probably won't like it. Move to Austin at least there's culture and character there. Dallas/frisco is bland.

Frisco Texas is a great place to be - 1/1/2012

We have lived in Frisco for 10 years and it is wonderful. It is a small suburb north of Dallas that has everything you would ever want from shopping to restaurants. My husband refers to it as a "bubble" and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Frisco Texas - 9/18/2011

I'm also very sad to hear someone complain they felt put upon by the schools in Frisco. I would initially be inclined to assume it is either paranoia or overly sensitive kids who maybe don't have very thick skins? The world is a rough place and indeed most other places are MUCH rougher than the Frisco schools in my humble opinion. Sheltered children might do well to get their feet wet outside of the isolated realms from which the LDS folks originate and learn that water does in fact roll readily from a ducks back. I've raised and put four kids through the Frisco schools over 15 years. My youngest is 18 and just started college now. I assume LDS is a reference to Mormon Christians? I do recall the influx of Mormons which occurred perhaps five or six years ago around the same time they built the new Mormon and Lutheran churches on Coit road. While I expect all children are prone to treat any new and different children as outsiders initially, that is almost always honest harmless feelings which children tend not to suppress. My four children never once mentioned the LDS kids nor were there ever any incidents nor references made to them as being an issue of any sort. Like myself all of my children were taught to not judge others until their actions have allowed them to judge themselves. The state of Texas may frown upon LDS policies of allowing multiple wives but I am of the opinion that I do not care what other people do in the privacy of their own homes (almost never care what they do outside their homes either) so long as it does not hurt or impact me and mine. We've lived prior to moving to Texas in 1982 in Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania and have relatives in every corner of the nation. I have not heard of nor found a better school district or better place to live affordably, safely and with an excellent quality of life and living standard than Frisco, Texas. Recent developments in Frisco, TX which may eventually be an issue include the general increase in crime in surrounding areas which has not yet impacted Frisco too much - just a slight increase in property crime but still well below the national average in overall crime. Rather than add more cops budgets have them instead sadly adding traffic cameras which are in most peoples opinion unconstitutional and should be banned by the supreme court in my opinion. The only downside according to Sperlings is the air quality which I admit has gone downhill from various causes cement plant and perhaps the battery plant to the west. Everything else remains outstanding and above excellent including some of the finest services (Police Fire Schools Library etc) you will ever find ANYWHERE!

The Real Windy City - 4/15/2011

My wife and I moved to Frisco from the Chicago area in October of 2010 and we absolutely love the north Dallas area. Although we have not yet experienced the heat of a Dallas summer yet, we both enjoyed the very mild winter. Except for two weeks of snow and ice and highs in the thirties, the rest of the winter was a piece of cake compared to the long dreary Midwest winters that we experienced for most of our lives. For the most part, the heart of the Dallas winter consists of high temps in the low 50's-low 60's which is really nice, but the best part is the amount of winter sunshine that you still get. Most days are sunny which plays such a positive role on your mood. The only drawback to this area is the constant wind. This by far the windiest area I have ever seen, which is quite a statement coming from Chicago.

Frisco, TX - A great place to live, play, raise a - 3/27/2011

Our family moved to Frisco, TX from Northern California in 2001 and I must say, this city has grown leaps and bounds!! We've seen the population go from 40k to over 100k in 10 years!! It's a diverse city with great schools, friendly people and convenient to everything, lot's of outdoor activities, tons of shops and dining til your hearts content. We have a several sports venues and Frisco was recently named the top place to raise an athlete. I was a little skeptical when we first moved here because it was not fully developed, but I'm glad we stuck around to see the growth. If you are planning a move here, you won't be disappointed. The first In-N-Out burger will be opening soon and I cannot wait for that!!

If you are buying in Frisco, you might consider do - 7/4/2010

Different people want different things when they buy a home. Quality of life is largely determined by the quality of governance of a city or of a homeowners association. If you are even considering buying within the Heritage Lakes development, might I suggest that you consider doing due diligence by inputting the search term "heritage lakes hoa " into the Google News search block. I would suggest that you will have a wealth of published pieces which should give you enough insight as to the quality of the governance of the mandatory HOA which rules this development. ( I would suggest that I would use the term "serves" for the function performed by other HOAs that are well managed. Caveat emptor is the watch word here.

Living next to a working ranch, the Texas Rangers' - 9/12/2009

I do love Frisco - it is so mixed up - new and old all together. I live in a new subdivision that abuts one of the largest still- working ranches in the region. When I drive to work or shopping or home, I drive past herds of cows and bulls and horses, and wheat and corn fields. But here also is Stonebriar Mall, three new multi-theaters, trendy restaurants, the Rough Riders and the Stars hockey team headquarters and stadiums, five huge high schools in a ten mile radius, new homes and roads, parks and trails, and wide open spaces. Still. The building has stopped, somewhat, due to the economy...and homes are still foreclosing. But Frisco is for the future, young families, lots of hope, and great spaces.
