A Hidden Gem for Living or Vacationing - 8/6/2020

I actually debated writing a review, when places like Palm Coast are discovered it becomes over populated. That said, it’s selfish to keep it a secret, some people need to get away or move to a place like this to have a better quality of life. It’s a beautiful place to live. It does have a lot of rules and regulations it those are in place to keep it beautiful. I like the idea of living somewhere that has a big HOA without the fees (and not as strict). The homes are very affordable and beautiful. Whether your house is $200k or $2 million they are all equally as beautiful, each in their own right. The beaches are breathtaking and the residents take care to keep them that way. Every store and restaurant you need is right here. Our European Village is a unique treat with wonderful restaurants and stores. Pam Coast not a city for anyone looking for excitement or nightlife and we like it that way. The good news is there’s plenty to do 30 minutes north in St. Augustine or 20 minutes south in Daytona. The streets are lined with tall oak trees and Spanish moss, creating beautiful canopies to drive through. The shade helps keep this area from getting as hot as other parts of Florida. It’s a hidden gem that not many know about, but this review will change that lol.

Not really a review but a question. My husband and I will be moving to the Palm Coast area soon. Work from home and need to find a 2 bed house/townhouse to rent something with a yard and allows pets. No more than $1200. Can anyone help?

A haven for smug people - 7/4/2018

Palm Coast is in between Daytona and St Aug --- both of which are much better cities than Palm Coast. This town is your typical retail FL town, with a small stretch of beach that is being battered away from the raging ocean. PC also harbors loads of retirees, so expect to slam your brakes for the oldies or out of control rich kids with their stupid looking cars. Racetrac the seemly only decently placed gas station in PC...you will find the cops will hang out there because why not? Its always a massive mess trying to find your way around the town and esp confusing for people to memorize the awful naming convention system they thought up...The traffic system is horrible with some lights taking 5min!!! Even in the dead of night or early morning. Jobs are few and far between with retail being it's biggest industry next to health care. That being said the wealth disparity is clear in the city, it's disgusting. Overall PC tries too hard to be everything St Aug and Daytona is. It's littered with trash as well--- I only gave it 2 stars because the hiking trails in PC are amazing!

Palm Coast is a wonderful place to live! - 1/31/2018

Don't let the previous reviews fool you. The city is a hidden gem. We have low crime and the city landscaping is meticulously maintained. You can be on the beach from anywhere in the city within 15 minutes. We have little traffic compared to other coastal cities in Florida. If you love the outdoors such as biking, surfing, hiking or fishing we have a lot to do. Inshore fishing is magnificent.

i think all you people who are giving palm coast poor reviews better look around. there is no place where there is no crime, no rude people, just varying degrees. it is a sad reflection of this country that it has come to this, but please stop blaming everything on the northerners. not their fault, people are rude in the south. have lived here since 1997, thinking of moving to palm coast. you will see when you go elsewhere you will have the same problems . it is the world, not palm coast.

if your thinking to move to palm coast fl, because the cheap property prices, well think again. you better be retired and bring money to buy a house cash and your car paid off and your be fine this is a total retired community, butttt if you are attracted by property prices and think you can get a job here in palm coast fl wel;l you got another thing coming, jobs here pay min wage you may get 10 an hour, but there is no jobs available, everything is back round check, drug test , etc, for just cheap jobs that don't pay nothing, if you are lucky you may become a slave at walmart or publix , getting a job in this places is like getting a job at nasa , there is absolutely no work here , this is the bottom of the can, you can get better jobs in south America then here in palm coast fl. so for working people is a must noooo. if you still wanna have warm weather investigate Miami, its more expensive yes but in Miami you can chose where you wanna work , quit and 2 days later you get another job , and quit again and get another job, the golden corral on a Saturday night here in palm coast closes at 10 pm, I went to Miami and peacticly everything is open 24/7, and yes Miami has private and nice towns and communitys like palm coast. been here for 5 years thinking of selling my house and move to Miami , this is a dead town all the way

Stay away if you move to Fl - 8/13/2014

I highly recommend those who are looking to move to Florida, stay away from the Palm Coast area. A lot of the bad New York crowd, and New Jersey crowd have moved in, their reasoning? Too high of taxes up North. Now every business has either closed down, or is invaded by rude New Yorkers. The neighborhoods now have a lot of crime, gun shots, murders, there are over 99 sex offenders in the area alone. We moved here 6 years ago, and we are leaving this year, we cannot possibly raise our children here. The schools are horrible, over crowded and full of "gangs". I would research the area before even moving to Florida, or even around Palm Coast.

2013 Palm Coast Review - Don't Be Fooled - 11/18/2013

For anybody considering moving to Florida in general, I would highly recommend you do your due-diligence. I used to come here (Jacksonville) on business quite often, thinking, wow, Florida would be a nice place to live someday. Boy was I wrong. The Job Market here in Florida is pretty much non-existent, and it is apparant the crime is rapid (depending on where you are at), of course as we all know crime is everywhere but not as previlant as what it appears here in Florida. Don't believe me?? Turn on and watch the local evening news and that is 95% of what the news casts are about, very disappointing at best. Now back to Palm Coast.....The entry into Palm Coast is very attractive with beautiful landscaped areas. Don't be fooled. When you enter any neighborhoods, you will notice a few houses that are very nicely landscaped and the rest of the neighborhood looks very low-end. It is apparant you have those who take pride in the homes and residential areas and those who don't. There a no street lights and no sidewalks to speak of. Kids literally have to walk in the streets on their way home from school. That in itself is not a good thing. Now driving is a whole different story. Not sure where the folks get their drivers licenses'from, but dont' expect anybody to use a Turn Signal, they pretty much are non-existant, and speed-limits, it is puzzling to me why they even put speed limit signs up, it is very apparant that nobody follow's them (try driving down Belle Terra) and you'll see what I mean. Tail-gating is a whole different story - (Enough said there) - Back to the neighborhoods in Palm Coast or should I say the "hoods". It is apparant that some folks take pride in their residences while others do not. Some homes I've seen in the neighborhoods in Palm Coast are simply "breath-taking". To those people who take care of their homes (Thank You)! I guess it is hard to comprehend how an area can have 3-5 nice looking homes and the rest of the residential area looks low-end. I would attribute this to a lack of an HOA or deed restricted home owners association. I know they can be a !@#$#@ but to the latter, they do keep the neighborhoods looking at least somewhat presentable. I mean who wants to live next to somebody who doesn't cut their lawn, parks their vehicles in the front yard, leaves the trash cans out in front of their house....tires lined up on the side of the house, house in desparate need of painting, just a total disregard in the pride an appearance of their home and neighborhood?? Very very dissappointing in-deed! I've never seen an area (and I mean all areas ((some better than others, mind you)) that looks this bad. Also, if I wanted to live in the Upper East Coast I would have moved there. They should rename Palm Coast to coincide with the majority of it's residents (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania) etc... and the North East Attitude and Driving that goes along with that. It is sad the "Southern Flavor" is gone from this town, it does have it's positive points, but their are more negative point's I'm afraid than positive ones. We are so very disappointed with the whole Florida move. In hind-site, I wish this had never happened. This Southern Person is heading for nicer pastures -

sneeky Politicians - 4/29/2013

I have lived here for 9 yrs. and by far the worst city I have ever lived in. The Mayor has his own agendas and does not care about the welfare of its people. Speeding and crime is vey high. The Mayor had red light cameras installed on just about every traffic light in town, there have been many blogs in the local paper about how furious residents are about these cameras and will not shop in the city because of it. We have the highest water bills in the state and the Mayor just raised it again, 20% over the next three years. Average water bill for family of 4 is about $120.00 per month. There is limited shopping, if you want good shopping you have to go to Daytona or St Agustine which is a 30 minute drive either north or south on 95. Eateries are so so and limited. I am really sorry I chose this crappy city to move to.

Since I moved here in 2012 I've learned Palm Coast has lots of sex offenders,break ins, and crazy violent crimes some resulting in murder.The people here drive crazy almost hitting people on crosswalks.Do your homework if your from outta state,if your from Florida than you properly are used to all the crime.

Palm Coast, FLORIDA - 9/11/2012

Palm Coast, Florida has affordable housing. It is a mixture of all cultures. It is a well kept area. But very hot long summers typical of Fl with summer thunderstorms sometimes. Churches of all religions from close and afar. Palm Coast FL is mostly flat, mowed fields with subdivision cheap houses on it and very few trees. Just flat and hot with dirty canals to collect the water so it doesn't flood too much. There were some trees but most were bulldozed down to make building a bunch of flat cheap homes easier. The big banks stole many houses so most streets have 10+ terrible looking vacant houses that the Big Banks and gov Fannie Mae refuse to rent or sell. A severe shortage of housing if you are looking to lease, as the houses here are kept vacant. These houses could all be rented in a week as so many need to rent houses here, but the big banks and the gov have made so much in stealing these houses that they refuse to rent them, even though there are many responsible families and couples and singles that all want to rent them. Many have been forced to leave the area, unable to find rental housing here. Very few if any jobs unless you can get a job with the City of Palm Coast. A few big box stores and a few retail stores and thats about it. If you rent or buy, check on the water bill for the house, as water bills are very high here. Many install a water well for affordable water, especially for the yard. To get to the beach, you have to pay $2 in Palm Coast to cross the bridge or drive north on US1 to St Augustine 15-25 miles north of Palm Coast. St Augustine has 10+ miles of wide beaches that at this time still allow leashed dogs and must pick up poop at all times to keep the beaches clean for everyone. Northeast Florida is one of the last few places that allow dogs on the beach. Most of Florida hates dogs and will not allow dogs on most beaches around the state. Florida itself is not the most friendly state and not a good place to make friends. Hope that helps.

It's beautiful - 4/4/2011

Pros: beautiful environment, trees, cheap housing, climate, low crime. Cons: New Yorkers, no jobs, few man-made attractions. Could be regarded either way: limited shopping. Consumer oriented people complain about lack of shopping centers; I think it's a plus. I spent my life looking for the ideal place to live. I lived in 16 cities in the last 12 years and visited 45 states. I could have retired anywhere in the US. I chose Palm Coast. I love living in a house surrounded by palm trees and tall pines. I love going to an undeveloped and nearly deserted Atlantic beach a few minutes away. I love being surrounded by wildlife sanctuaries and beautiful wilderness parks. Look elsewhere if you want a picturesque walkable downtown (you want Mount Dora), cultural attractions such as museums and restaurants (stay in the Northeast), or attractive, friendly neighbors (move to Alabama). I don't care about jobs, but I can't avoid wondering what non-retired people do for a living. I've heard some make a hellish 70-100 mile commute to Jacksonville or Orlando. I've heard people moved out because they couldn't find a job. Overbuilding in the early 2000s, followed by repos, has made relatively new houses cheap, similar to Cape Coral/Ft Myers. But the place has not turned into a suburban ghetto like Poinciana, contrary to the claims of other reviewers. I also dispute what they say about high crime and bad schools. Government statistics say the crime rate here is one-fourth that of Florida and the US. I never lock my door. My granddaughter's school is one of the best I've seen in terms of educational quality, caring positive attitude and making students participate rather than languish. Palm Coast is for people who love the outdoors more than man-made attractions.

No longer 5 Best Places to Retire - 2/15/2011

As young retirees from a major city in New Jersey infested with crime and lousy city services we did extensive research prior to purchasing our home in Florida. Our main criteria were low crime, efficient city services, no HOA fees, no State taxes, that quality of life issues were enforced and of course hiking, beaches, parks, etc. A family friend mentioned Palm Coast and how great it was. We did more research on the area prior to heading down. It was rated 5 of the best places to retire by Fortune Magazine, the crime rate at that time (2009) was violent crime 3 & property crime 2, so we decided to stop by on our way to other locations on our list. Well we loved the location, right off I-95, close to the beaches on A1A, in the middle of St. Augustine and Daytona Beach, close to the airports, some modest homes at great prices – foreclosures/short sales. We like what we saw, the city services very efficient, parks, bike trails, beaches, retirement at its finest so we decided to purchase. Sadly after a year we are talking about moving further down south. We love our neighbors however, things are going down hill. The City Council is instances on becoming a major city focusing on bringing an increase in the population, spending over 10 million to build a new City Hall against the wishes of the majority of the citizens, bringing in big businesses to a retiree community, over developing, destroying the peace and tranquility that we were seeking. In the last two years we have noticed an increased in the crime rate now 5/5 up from 3/2, traffic heavier than usual, in the last two years it’s been hit with a cold spell down in the low 20 and there is definitely something wrong with the water. No matter what they publish on the city website about how wonderful the water is I would definitely not drink it. The water stains everything white and recently they added some additional chemicals. We were considering buying a water softener and purifying treatment system however considering we might move we will hold off.

We live here for 12 years and the quality of life has gone down. Scools are crowded, there is much more crime and there are no jobs. Sort sales and forclosures galore. We are retired.

Palm Coast Florida - Great retirement place but no - 11/8/2009

Lets be honest, Palm Coast Florida is a great place to live if your looking for a nice crime free community with many retirement activities and like going to the beach. But if you’re looking for work and a place to raise a family, you may want to look elsewhere. Near perfect weather with slightly cool winters but without that extreme heat and humidity in the summer months like the southern Florida locations. People are mostly from the upper northern states such as New York, New Jersey, Road Island, Connecticut, Vermont, PA, etc. Lots of nearby attractions in St. Augustine and Jacksonville to the north, and in Daytona Beach and Orlando to the South.

Seems like summer all year long. In the fall & winter months the temperature is usually in the 70's during the day with cooler evenings. Some mornings we wake up to frost. My family enjoys the mornings with the frost!

Know what your real needs are before you move - 10/3/2009

I moved to Palm Coast several months ago as my eldest daughter lives here with her family. I thought I was looking for a change in location and life (duh!). Having visited multiple times, I thought it was a good idea. Wonderful climate here even though I now know I miss the changing season's even the snow. What I realized is if you are a couple married or not, have children or you are retired and elderly this is a wonderful place to live. If your not any of the above, you'll not be happy. At this time there is nothing to do other than Walmart and the new Super Target strip mall. NO MiddleEastern food, no Indian cusine or a bonfide kosher deli. I can see in the future it will probably be a great place to live for the group of people such as myself when there are other things here such as Jobs, a movie theater etc. Palm Coast is growing, however it is so buccolic in the Stepford kind of setting that I've given myself no more than the first of the year to go back home. I don't see myself driving to Jacksonville everyday to work. I'm a city girl,I'm not ready to call it a day yet. Really know what your needs are before you run from whatever your running from, this city has much to offer to some but I'm not one of them yet. I'll come back to vist my daughter and family but I'm not PALM COAST MATERIAL YET!!!!
