Poway, a great town - 8/6/2021

Poway is a great place to live. People are friendly, neighbors watch out for each other. Great trails, beautiful views. Love to hear the birds. Family oriented. Yes we've lived here a long time, was able to vote to make it a city. So glad we moved here.

Trees Trees Trees - 2/1/2020

Moved here 37 years ago and love the birds singing in the morning, minimal traffic noise, and convenience to Carmel Mountain Ranch for shopping. Easy access to the freeway FasTrak north and south and then 56 heading west. Perfect location for commute if you need the MTS to head to San Diego. Great schools.

Overpriced, soul-less, fake yoga mom kind of place - 8/8/2018

I've lived here for 30 years. Back 30 years ago it was great. Small town, friendly people, etc. NOW Traffic is pretty bad but still better than most of SD county. I'm not a big SD fan to be honest. It's superficial and fake friendly and Poway is too. Good luck making any "real" friends. I have a handful of long term friends who are amazing people that I've known since childhood but theyre all stressed and busy. Nobody invites people over for barbeques. Nobody has time for anyone. I've had people over for dinners, BBQs, Wine nights, kids play dates, sleepovers, etc. It's reciprocated maybe 10% of the time. People are too stressed and busy here to enjoy life and too busy keeping up with the Jones's. Thankfully I have an amazing career that pays SUPER well and allows me to work far less than most. So unless you want to be around a lot of fake yoga moms, cookie cutter lifestyles, and leave it beaver without the genuine compassion and love for one another... don't bother with this over priced fake place. On a positive note it's super safe, a beautiful town, and has all the ammenities you could need. Negatives: Hot, over priced, and soul less. If you HAVE to move to SD I'd recommend Ramona (most people are friendly- it's slightly too right winged for me but hey at least they're nice). I think the biggest thing to remember is where there is A LOT of money there is A LOT of superficial crap... not my cup of tea!

Best Climate in the US - 2/14/2015

Poway is a town about 20 miles northwest of San Diego. It's temperature is almost always 10 degrees hotter than what is posted for San Diego. It might freeze here once or twice a year. It can get in the 90's for around 2 months, but mainly stays between 50-85 year round. The public school system is excellent if you like large schools. The private schools are mostly on the coast. (With the exception of religious schools and charter schools). We are set on the west side of the mountains that separate us from the Anza Borrego Desert. People who come to visit us start to say every morning when they wake up "Oh, another day in paradise" because of the seemingly endless cloudless, sunny days.

Quiet "City in the Country" - 11/30/2009

Poway is halfway between everything in San Diego County. If you've got a car, this is a great place to live. It is a city of families with commuting parents. Politics are decidedly conservative and religion predominantly Christian. Great for quiet streets with no night life. People get involved in the community through Church or school for the most part.

Great schools! - 9/28/2008

We have lived here since 1977 and both our children attended the Poway Unified School system. They had a great experience and the system continues to improve every year. Many people from all walks of life have moved here because of the education for their children.

Climate - 8/18/2008

I love the climate here, always sunny. It can get a bit hot in August 95-100% but is perfection in my book.

Perfect Poway - 3/15/2008

25 minutes from Beach, best schools in the state, great place to live. Lots of community events, You have to pay quite a bit, though, to get a house with a decent yard.

Ideal climate - 5/31/2006

San Diego has an ideal climate. Poway is a nice family-oriented community. It has a top school district. Poway is half country and half city making it an ideal setting to live.

It's nice but too costly - 5/9/2006

My fiance and I are in our 30's and rent in the Sabre Springs area of Poway near Carmel Mountain and Rancho Bernardo off I-15, specifically. While it's a nice suberb, quiet, pretty safe and near a little river, the going rent here for a nice 2 bedroom is $1600, no garage but parking is always available, and utilities are not included. A positive about San Diego in general is that move-in costs are very low.. the deposit is often around the $2-400 range on approved credit (vs. 1st and last month rent/deposit in Los Angeles which can run a person $3000+ easily). For those who aren't aware, the San Diego area is the most expensive in perhaps the entire US continent when it comes to gasoline. Together, we make over $100K per year and not too much in bills, but live very much check to check as the cost of living here is disproportionately high. Unless you bought into the market or acquired a rent-controlled apt years ago (if they have that here anywhere), then it's unreasonable. A college degree with experience doesn't make any difference as quite a few people still have 2nd jobs or some other form of extra income.
