Promising nice small city, but not here yet. - 10/8/2021

Moved from Ventura CA to Fillmore CA for better housing affordability. Then we needed to upgrade and moved to Santa Paula. That was a compromise from a small town feeling to a bigger and impersonnel smalish wantabe city. The city is 90 percent hispanic, with many low income residents, and with a small tax base. So, of course, things like repairing roads and other city services are minimally available. Water is from well water and water is very expensive, so if you want plants and a lawn this it not the place to move. More and more of the country living aspect of Santa Paula is being removed. Farmers sell their farms to developers and the city allow tract housing to spread inside city borders. Downtown has no character except being rundown with lots of urban blight. Could be a lot better, and maybe if the city council will one day elect some good upgrade to city life. I doubt it though!

A friendly town, good climate, charming neighborho - 4/30/2007

We have lived in Santa Paula for five years. After living in LA, we found the charming neighborhoods, low crime, friendly people, and idyllic climate (except for those 3 hot weeks in the summer!) to be a welcome change. SP is a working class town with a primarily latino flavor of nice people raising their families.

Overcrowded Houses - 10/24/2006

According to studies conducted by the County of Ventura, 60% of homes in Santa Paula have more people living in them than they were designed to contain. 60%! This is due to the fact that the homes are being bought by Spanish-speaking families who are moving relatives and renters in to help make the house payment. It's not unheard of to have people living in tents which are set up in the backyards. This results in a lessening of the quality of life in Santa Paula. Many of these additional people do not contribute to the tax base yet avail themselves of city services, parks, etc. The overcrowding results in limited street parking with many homes having 3 or more cars parked in the street. Garages are often converted into living space to accomodate the additional people.

Hot! Hot! Hot! - 10/24/2006

I have yet to find a single website that accurately lists the average temperatures in Santa Paula. Most sites are using information from Ventura, a much larger community located 10 miles west of Santa Paula on the California coast. Santa Paula is at least 10 degrees hotter than the listings on this and other sites. Many summer days are over 100 degrees. It is definitely hot and uncomfortable.

it just can't be... - 6/27/2006

... beat! SoCal/Mediteranian, 10 miles to the Pacific, behind marine layer and even when it gets into the 90's there's a mild canyon breeze coming off the ocean to turn the air over.
