Meh. Pretty boring - 7/1/2020

Pretty boring town. Very run down and seedy too. Lake is nothing special either. I much prefer the Pacific coast or even the Atlantic coast or great lakes.

Overpriced overhyped overrated dump - 5/18/2020

Seriously I don't get what the big deal about this dump is everything is grossly overpriced scenery is boring and not at all interesting very boring nothing to do very little access to the lake and the very few places that are cost an arm and a leg horrible food trash everywhere both literally and figuratively trashy trailer parks dilapidated shacks apartments and hotels drugs and tweakers everywhere seriously just avoid this dump like the plague actually getting the plague would be better than coming to this grossly overpriced overrated dump!

Beautiful place - 1/25/2020

Beautiful place to live. This site has most of the details wrong, has somehow lumped it together with Sacramento. Elevation is 6250 feet at the lake. Weather is cold in the winter, plenty of snow, but the sun shines most of the time, actually more than 300 days a year. Summers here are perfect, never hot, always sunny. The lake is gorgeous, the mountains are all around us.

A total dump and total disgrace to Tahoe. - 12/11/2019

This is where all the trailer trash and just trash period in Tahoe hang. Ugly dumpy run down tweakers, druggies, and drunks everywhere. Very high crime rates. Very rude nasty people. Do yourself a favor and just avoid this dump at all costs and stay on the north or wear shore. It will cost a bit more but it is so worth it. Seriously South Lake Tahoe makes Barstow look good and that is bad. As I used to think Barstow was the worst place on Earth. But this place manages to be even worse.

Least favorite part of Tahoe but it's still Tahoe - 5/24/2018

I love Tahoe. So beautiful and so much to do . Great food too. Close to Carson City, Virginia City, and Reno and not too far from Sacramento. So you'll never run out of things to do here. I do have to say though South Lake Tahoe isn't as nice as other parts of Tahoe. Which is why it is gets 4 stars whereas all other places in Tahoe I'd give 5 stars to. Parts of South Lake Tahoe are kinda dumpy and rundown. Some crime, drugs, and methheads. Definitely more than other places in Tahoe. Certainly nowhere near as bad as say Eureka or Crescent City in northwestern California though. There are quite a few nice places on the south shore too. Like Fallen Leaf Lake, Desolation Wilderness, Mount Tallac ,and Emerald Bay (most would consider that West shore though). That being said I definitely would generally prefer the north shore, west shore, or the Nevada Side over South Lake Tahoe.

South Lake Slumhole - 1/8/2017

This place is awful. At best the people are undereducated meth addict alcoholic mental cases. At worst they embody the word Hegemony. Just read about Eureka CA and that's it.

Great Recreation - 4/21/2014

South Lake Tahoe has some of the best access to backcountry recreation in the state. 10 minutes from town are excellent backcountry skiing, hikes, mountain biking and climbing.

great climate - 6/19/2006

Lake tahoe has great weather 8 months of the year---and the other 4 months of winter are not bad if you don't mind a little snow!

wrong data - 6/18/2005

The climate data for S. Lake Tahoe is completly wrong.Snowfall is closer to 50 feet per year, it's rare to get 1 day above 90 degrees, the elevation is 6400 feet, etc. I am now suspect of other cities data.
