I have lived in Newport News for over twenty years. In those twenty years, I have watched the city tear down everything that made this place desirable to live here. They have built thousands of new homes and no new schools. Classrooms are overcrowded and education sliding downward. They bus from other parts of the city so your child is in danger at middle and high school levels. Opt for Private or home school if possible. The traffic is horrendous. In addition to adding countless thousands of new business, housing and apartments to the area, they have failed to keep up with the old roads. If you love bottle neck traffic and loads of traffic lights, than Newport news is for you. UGLY is the only way I know to describe this city. It is turning into a garbage heap. If you have to move here, get out to Yorktown, Poquoson, or past Williamsburg. Stay away from Denbigh! I live in Denbigh and am so desperate to get out I just may burn my house to the ground! The city has plans to rebuild the historic waterfront ares of Newport News in the future. Before they can do that, they have to get the violence, the gangs, the thugs and the drugs out of there. They have already torn down two housing complexes and they are NOT building them. They are shifting the city's scourge north, to Denbigh! So if in your face arrogance, rudeness, idiocy, over crowded, loud, dirty, traffic central, no trees left, racist black card, violence, drugs, crime, taxed to death on everything kind of place is what you're after, then Newport news is the place for you! Please buy my house!
