Louisville, Great to Visit, Not to Live
Star Rating - 5/2/2007
Living in this city for the past eight years, I can see that it has a lot of potential; however, the old guard is slow to change and the constant overcast skies can really make everyday seem gloomy.

Pros:
Louisville is a nice mid-size city featuring such events as Thunder Over Louisville and the Kentucky Derby Festival. There are many nice parks, there are many young couples with kids, it is both kid and family friendly, and in general, the people are friendly. The downtown area of the city is coming along with several high-rise office buildings and condominiums being proposed. Housing within the city and suburbs is affordable and the cost of living is relatively low as compared to other cities.

Cons:
Public transportation is non-existent. The TARC may be the worst public transit system in the country. Crime within the city is on the upswing and continues to be a problem. There are more signs of gang activity, drugs, and other violent acts of crime. The public school system is going downhill. My husband and I had to enroll our child into a private school due to issues we along with several other parents had with the public school system. The drivers around Louisville-Metro are horrible. Indiana drivers are the worst, but some Kentucky are bad too. Salaries and job growth are meager. Selling your home can be a headache and the appreciation values are minimum. My last con is that there continues to be a clash between racists, transplants, inbreds, poor trash, old money, and those that would like to bring more progressive change to Louisville.

Though I really like this place, it is still stuck in the 1950s and I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel so we are moving. Louisville is a good place to visit, but do your research and think twice before moving here.
