Living in Washington

I'm looking to move to Washington sometime next year. I'd prefer Seattle/Spokane. But I have heard negative comments, what about Snohomish or Mill Creek? What is like to live in these cities? I have visited Seattle twice several years ago, but of course it's nothing like living there. Any feed back on housing, lifestyle, people. I'm single and don't care so much for clubs.
I can find my own entertainment with my vast majority of hobbies. I'm sure I'll meet people in my religion. So that's not a major concern to me. Any comments or feedback on cost of living is good too. Are there places you'd recommend for singles to live that is quiet, clean, good atmosphere?
