Season Changes - 4/8/2015

Truly have the distinct 4 seasons here. The cold makes you appreciate the summer even more! Spring can be cold, icy and frigid. The following Spring can bring 70-80 degree days, green grass and flowers.

Iowa is a boring state unless you like to hike. Winters are cold.

Living in Washington, Iowa - 7/12/2010

This is the most unfriendly town I have ever lived in my entire life. People make no effort to welcome you, neighbors never even speak to you. If we had only known we would be living in a town that would never make you feel part of this little community, I think, if we weren't stuck here, we would have never packed up and bought a house in this town. Washington, Iowa boasts that is one of the best small towns to retire and live. If you never want to communicate with anyone, Washington, Iowa is the place for hermits, people who are not willing to enjoy other human beings, very strange for a so called "farming community". Sorry to say, I don't know how I could even begin to say this is a great place to live? Perhaps if you were born and raised here, you would be part of things, otherwise look elsewhere for a pleasant experience in your retirement years.

Look around - 5/12/2010

Iowa City is a great place to live in Iowa. There is always something to do in here all you need to do is look around, also Des Moines is not that far away. When it comes to housing don't be surprised at first there are good prices as long as you look around and keep clear of downtown or the football stadium unless your willing to pay for it. Durning football season be tolerant of traffic of the loyal Iowans. Definitely give Iowa City a shot you won't regret it.

Weather in Eastern Iowa - 7/12/2009

Weather is fairly comparable to Chicago burbs. Extremes in temp-hot in summer, cold in winter. Good place if you like snowy winters.

Wind - 4/9/2008

The wind seems to always blow in Western Iowa. Helps in the 2-3 months that it really gets hot, but, in the winter will chill you to the bone. Wind breaks are a must but new construction usually doesn't come with many trees. Be prepared to lay out some cash for semi-mature trees or you'll have chilly winter's.

Iowa - 2/22/2008

Winter lasts from late Nov. to mid-March. The last half of March and all of April really aren't Spring. It's chilly and wet. Spring is May, and it's great! So is June. July and through mid August are hot and humid, but not all that bad. Fall is the Iowa's best season. September and October are wonderful. Sunshine, mild temps, blue skies, great fall color in mid-October. Early to mid-November isn't bad. It starts clouding up, and it's chillier, but it's not cold. Late November is to Fall what April is to Spring: chilly and wet. I've said for years that Iowans have short memories. By late November you remember what Winter's going to be like, but by then it's too late to leave.

Iowa's Loess Hills - 1/29/2008

The Loess Hills ( in Iowa are by far one of the most unique and beautiful places to visit in North America if not the world. The soils are rare, as well as the people you will meet. What makes Iowa special is that, it and only one other place that can make this claim is in China. There are loess soils in other areas but China and Iowa are the deepest, with respectively over 200 ft. for each location. Each town has it's own story to tell as far back as 6000 yrs. Yes, 6000 years. They have found spear points, stone tools, and burials to indicate that humans have inhabited the hills. You can stop into any tourism attraction and you will be greeted with a smile and leave with a wealth of information. You will darn near feel like family and vow to return some day. Another website to help you learn more is ( which will link you to other interesting areas in Iowa to visit. No time like the present. Click away and make time to stop by. Grude against Iowa? - 5/15/2006

Boo-Hoo, boo-hoo. Some bad people provided opinions about Iowa, that conflicted with Jimmy's. These bad people obvioulsy have a grudge against Iowa. Hey! Jim-Boy! Guess what? I don't like Pepsi. Cause I gotta grudge against it!! Now be a good boy, and dry those tears dear.....and for the rest of you, please start saying good things about Iowa!! Jim-Boy's obviously very sensitive - a typical Midwestern trait!!

Born and Raised in Iowa - 4/21/2006

Having been born and raised in Iowa, I feel qualified to tell you a bit about it if you are thinking about moving there. Highlights: Excellent education from elementary through university levels Low prices for homes and food FRESH, cheap food all summmer and fall Safe neighborhoods Friendly folks - if you're clean-cut Independent movie theaters, small film festivals, concerts and theater Fun small-town events Good fishing (if you like lake\river fish) Nice bike trails Green, green, green as far as the eye can see Shortcomings: Freezing winters and hot, muggy summers 98% white (if you're not white and/or not clean-cut, it might not be for you) Choice of ethic restaurants is still slim though increasing Tough on those with bad allergies Iowa wages are lower for the same job than other regions, for example teachers aren't paid very well in general Hope this helps.
