Wow, I came here looking for the town some friends are moving town and found my own town dissed.
Surprise but I am enjoying a wonderful quality of life in and sure don't think it's a Bad Bad Place to be. So I guess it is all in what you want and what you value.
Sure the city has a long way to go, a downtown would be nice, another used bookstore would be good etc. but we haven't been a city for very long.
But... we have a well cared for 4 bdrm house built in the 60's, on nearly a quarter acre lot to garden in and enjoy. We have Great neighbors on all sides (but yes sometimes trashy people drive through the neighborhood, running stop signs, and assalting the airwaves with their thrummmming and annoying bass, scattering children and pets)
Still we are just a mile from the American River where we kayak most weekends. The Parkway on both sides of the river are great for biking, rollerblading, picnicing and wildlife watching. I've got all the stores that I need in town but sure I'd love a closer Trader Joe's, but not all the congestion that comes with it and the Macy's and ad infinitum stores. I'll drive that 2.5 congested miles if I "have to have it" and go to all of them at once and hasten back home. I've got Sacramento 7 miles away for my art fix and more, all the wonders of beloved San Francisco, Berkeley etc are only 90 minutes away. Wine country is everywhere. Good colleges are all around. Great weather, affordable living.
Gee, it feels like quality to me folks.

| do not stop or live in rancho - 4/12/2013
if you are not military or of ethnic origin this city will watch you die. don't be unfortunate enough to get sick here. If you stop here, you are a resource to be used. If you get sick here you will see the hard side of medical care. They will not help you unless you fork over obscene amounts of money. Drive farther west or east to find help. If you are white this city is not for you. I never thought I would see this kind of behavior in America, my native country, but I am shocked to say Sacramento and more particularly rancho cordova is not a good place to stop or live. move on. It's a pot hole in the road, avoid it or pay the consequences.[read more...]

| Rancho Cordova a city in transition - 6/26/2012
Rancho Cordova was an unincorporated area of Sacramento County and was neglected until local residents organized and voted for cityhood in 2003. The majority of the city is composed of modest housing with longtime residents. A good amount of retail exists within the city and the prime areas for shopping are safe. There are other areas which are unsafe to live so when thinking about Rancho Cordova location is the key. Newer areas south of Highway 50 have attracted many families as well as professionals looking for affordable homes, amenities (parks, bike trails, and good schools) and safe neighborhoods. The nearby American River is also a desired recreational hot spot. Some of the newer areas are served by a different school district than Folsom Cordova and there is access to some high performing schools. The city is one of the few in California with a budget surplus and the city has the ability to move forward with civic projects that will increase the quality of life for residents. For example, in cooperation with private developers the city plans to move forward with an entertainment/theatre complex.[read more...]
