About Burlington
Star Rating - 6/22/2006
Situated NW of Boston near intersection of RT128 and RT3. Far enough to be in the suburbs, but close enough to access the city (30 minute car drive). Public bus can take you into Boston or to the subway system. The town also has its own local bus routes to take you around Burlington. Traffic flow is pretty good during the day except during commuting times. Easy access to highways.
Burlington is a relatively small community but has a lot of businesses in town. It sports a hospital, lots of retail including a mall (with another being built), a movie theatre, and many restaurants. Currently Sun Microsystems east coast headqarters is located in town, along with many other hi-tech compnanies.
Houses are $300k+, many properties have approx. 1/2 acre. There are also a few apartment type complexes as well. The town has one large main park, and many smaller neighborhood parks. All have been updated in recent years. The main park has tennis, basketball, skateboard, baseball, playground, and a wading pool. The newer library is a good size, and has many computers for public use. They offer various activities for the community during the year. The recreation dept. offers activites for all age groups, many of which are very reasonably priced. The town also offers many sports for the kids, which are run by community based organizations, like Pop Warner. There are 4 public elementary schools, 1 middle school (6-8), and 1 high school. Gym, music, and art are still strong in Burlington. The high school may have one of the strongest art programs in the state and is also one of the few high schools to have a gymnastics team. I've lived here since 1985. The people are friendly. There's a strong family and elderly community presence in town.
