Review of Brick Township, New Jersey

Brick and Transportation
Star Rating - 2/9/2010
First--The population is NOT 44K; it's 78K spread out over 26 square miles, so it's pretty cramped.
Second--Transportation's not so great; you need a car, although there is a Township bus that goes around the town on certain days of the week that takes you to the Plaza for shopping or other shopping centers. It does NOT take you to your doctor; for that you need to contact a taxi.
Third--The climate is hot and humid in the summer, cold and snowy in the winter.
Fourth--Crime is somewhat minimal, meaning that most crime is ID theft, vandalism and other assorted misdemeanors. We were voted #1,2,and 3 being the safest city in America over the past eight years, so that does count for something.
Fifth--The current economy is just as lousy as the rest of the state or country; jobs are scarce, unless you want to work in a hamburger joint.
We have NO industrial complexes here, so either you have to commute northward or go to the next town over for light industry.
Sixth--There is NOTHING to do in the winter. It is VERY boring here and always has been. Movies, ice skating, shopping. That's it, except maybe some school plays, football, and the library. Summertime, you have the beach and Brick owns two of them on the ocean, plus Windward Beach, which is free (at least SOMETHING here is free!), plus they do an annual SummerFest.

Seventh--Education? We have 13 schools, ranging from Kindergarten to two High Schools. Cost is expensive tax-wise and every year it goes up.
Eighth--Health, we have a shortage of doctors (Primary), and one hospital.
Ninth--Housing is either private family or a few condominiums or a few apartment buildings, all of which are VERY expensive.
Tenth--Politics? Don't get me started on this one! It is VERY much a cronyism system, nepotism and although many have tried throughout the years to change it, they are defeated by those who have been in the "system" and see to it that no one else is in the "elite" circle. A previous mayor was arrested for accepting a bribe and put into prison; others that were part of his "team" got away with it.
Eleventh--Quality of Life is okay; Water is clean, although heavily bleached (city water); we have a few parks, a reservoir that has a walking path, we're three miles from the Atlantic Ocean, there are a few walking paths that lead into parks and that's about it.
Twelfth--Religion--We have several different denominations around to choose from.

Overall, I'd say don't waste your time living here: too expensive and not much to offer for the taxes you pay.

I've lived here for 50 years, so I know what I'm talking about.
