I USED to live here.... - 7/6/2006

I used to live here and it is a lovely city. Crime is low and the standard of living is superior. HOWEVER, there are some draw backs to living in paradise, they are: Housing is expensive; a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car gagrage, generic type 1500 sq foot house is $200k and up. Almost California prices! The cost of living and utilities are also expensive, my average monthly electric bill was $150.00. The pay is substandard, a good job there is $10.00 an hour. Roads are always congested and it takes 45 mins to drive 15 miles. Forget Spring Break, you can't get anywhere and pray you don't have to work near tourist areas, because you will have to either leave 2 hours in advance or be late. The elderly population is high as well, they crowd the road too in the A.M. when others have to go to work. Where does a 90 yr old have to be at 7 a.m.? The mosquitos will eat you alive and the humidity is so thick you could cut it with a knife. I have lived here in "Paradise" and I could not wait to move away. I now live in Kansas City, MO and my income has increased, my utility bills have lowered, my standard of living is comfortable, I am happier and I can breathe. No humidity, no skeeters and I can drive 15 miles in 15-20 mins. Oh and a HUGE 2 story house will cost me $160k. Now that's living! Forget paradise, I'll keep KC MO ANY DAY!

Expenses in Cape Coral bleed you dry - 3/23/2006

My daughter lives in the Cape, I lived nine miles away in Fort Myers. Her taxes on her $190,000 house were over $2,500; mine, on the same price house were only $550. You do the math! All of Lee County is expensive, and the Cape is talking about becoming their own County, a matter which will come up for vote this next year. Goods and services are readily available, but much higher than one would normally expect. Another thing - learning to speak Spanish won't hurt either. The Cape's Spanish speaking population has grown a lot since Andrew in 1992. When the folks leaving Miami came to the Cape, they have now had their families and friends follow. Expensive, heavy traffic, crowded everything, high crime rate. Nope! Don't like the Cape any longer. Which is why I moved and my daughter has her house for sale.

Paradise - 3/12/2006

Simply put, Cape Coral is overall - just wonderful. Sun, waterways everywhere connecting to the Gulf of Mexico, our own Beach, high Real Estate Appreciation and a peaceful community just minutes from Fort Myers & Fort Myers Beach etc.

It is a paradise under the sun, with nice weather during the whole year.Taxes are not different that any ohter nice city to live.Huricanes havent been that close to Cape Coral in fact the last one with straight hit to Cape was over 40 years ago .So if there are a save place away from huracanes thats The Cape.Beautyfull neighboohood with lots of big and new homes and canals . Cape is Close to other cities Like Naples,Miami,Tampa but more quiet , less trafic . If you like fishing, golf and a clear view of the sky and green trees ,and a save place to live with one of the lowest crime in US thats the Cape. You will get what you pay for.if you put cape in an scale you will be getting more that what you are really paying for.

Housing/Taxes/Cost of living in Cape Coral, FL - 9/18/2005

My husband and I have lived in Cape Coral since 2001. The price of real estate has sky rocketed since we moved here. We are now going to sell our home, take our money, and run (to another state). The property taxes in Cape Coral are high, and the water and sewer assesments are about $15,000.00 when you are converting from well/septic to the city system (mandatory when they come into your neighborhood). Home owners insurance is rising rapidly due to the frequent threat of hurricanes, and the past 2 seasons of Florida-landing hurricanes. We would stay here if it were not for the high cost of living.
