Housing Vs Income - 9/27/2007

Relative to wages, Housing is now a little expensive. Housing prices are coming down, now we just need wages to increase.

Traffic - 7/18/2007

Chandler is, overall, a great place to live. Unfortunately, the Phoenix metro area, in general, has grown very quickly, and the state has done very little to accomodate that growth. They've just let it happen. As a result traffic is horrendous in the metro area. Chandler itself is not too bad, but most people can't spend all their time in Chandler. Don't let the summer scare you. If you don't mind a little heat it is certainly no worse than the Midwest's high temps and high humidity.

Great place for kids - 6/23/2007

I came here when my son was a baby, and it has been great for him to live here. There are wonderful splashpads to cool off in (the heat you hear about here is not joke), and lots of community programs to be involved in. I have never been at a loss of what to do with him here, fun or educational. There are lots of charter schools available which give more options for free education. I had to learn how to do things in the heat, Summer here is really winter since you stay inside mostly. The flipside is you have the rest of the year to do outdoor stuff. The air quality is very poor and that is my biggest concern. Look at how we rate on this site, it is very true. I have a harder time living here than my son. Dealing with the heat is much harder for me than him. I have found people to be friendly, but I have found it hard to find close friends here. I think it has to do with the amount of people that live in this whole phoenix metro area, and eveyone is busy and bustling. I love the fact that chandler is doing so much to better itself. I live in one of the older communities here and they have a million dollar fund that has helped fix up the neighborhood before it gets too bad. The rest of the houses are newer and are in big housing developments. Tons of HOA's. The streets are constantly improving, and everywhere you look there is a new store or restraunt being put it. I know that in 10 years this is going to be one of the better communities in the metro area.....I actually already think it is.

Build it and they will come - 5/29/2007

Greetings I moved to Arizona from Columbus, Ohio, roughly 10 years ago. I have lived in Chandler, AZ for 9 of those years. I have always been interested in real estate and became a licensed realtor 3 years ago. Chandler is one of the up and coming cities in the USA. Property values have skyrocketed and new trendy businesses have scrambled to establish themselves in new commercial centers. Due to its location, the city is landlocked and it has pretty much reached 'critical mass' in growth. There are very few parcels of private land left to acquire/develop so they are fairly pricey. There are several fairly affordable sub-divisions going up, most of the remaining new builds are trending towards the million dollar range.

Everything comes with a price - 8/9/2006

While I love the almost perfect weather (even when it is 115 degrees), and all the recreational activities surrounding Chandler, it comes with quite a high price in my opinion. The crime surrounding the city is higher than average - mostly because Phoenix is only 20 minutes away. The cost of living is also another huge downfall. Couples just starting out will have a hard time finding a home at a reasonable price. Guess it all depends on where your priorities lie, and whether crime and housing prices are factors in choosing where to move.

Too, too hot and getting hotter - 7/19/2006

Chandler is a nice city, but growing by leaps and bounds. Traffic is a nighmare. People drive like maniacs and aren't very friendly. Nearly everyone is a snob - thinking they are better then the "common" person. Too many Californians have moved here and brought that mentality. It is hot at least 5 months of the year and one year the temps were in the hundreds in December. You have to drive and drive and drive to be anywhere other than Arizona. You have to drive for an hour just to be on the other side of Phoenix. There's little to do here if you don't shop, mountain climb or camp. And you can't do that for at least 5 months of the year because - it's too hot. Climbing into your car when it has set outside in the sun is like climbing into an oven. In short - it's too, too hot!

HOT HOT HOT AND CRAZY - 7/16/2006

It is just too hot here. The area is nice, being close to the city and also all the "new businesses" make it very convenient. The heat however, is so horrible that you really can't get out and enjoy much. The summers have gotten longer it seems and the winters much milder. House prices got maddening but seem to have come down a bit. If you like weather, this is not the place for you! Here we get "dust storms" but that is likely to be the only storm you'll see. Our monsoons have really gone down hill, where have they gone?? So the heat makes ya crazy, the traffic and heavy over-populated small towns make you want to just scream and the "dusty dinner" each night in this town ... makes enjoying easy shopping, movies and/or whatever other new building that has popped up on the street corner fun to live here ??? I DON'T THINK SO. Oh, we've enjoyed it. It seems however, this once great place to live is just not so great anymore. You can find culture about the desert, you can find a movie house, a shopping center, all the latest and greatest in places to eat and what not but again - try getting out of the house in these seemingly 7 month summers! If you have leather in your car - RETHINK that! Also - seriously get glass insurance as it is a guarantee you'll have to replace a windshield (or a drivers side window even)within the first year and then some. Also, if you're looking for friendly - that's not here either. Good luck finding a friend! Everyone seems so in to their own lives that making "social" ties here - is just HARD. It is very strange - but true! I think everyone is hiding from teh sun! Forget riding your bike (harley or schwin) because the wind feels like a blow dryer set on high - no joke! So we (hubby and I) are currently looking for our new home - and Phoenix will not be it.

Help! Get me to greener pastures and out of this h - 7/5/2006

Chandler/Phoenix is a nice place to live. Good family place. Has good points and bad points (mainly the summer heat). But, if you have lived in Atlanta, Dallas, or Chicago this is not so bad. We are Boomers looking for a nice place where Cost of Living and crime are not so bad. Have any ideas?

Chandler is a planned community with great freeway system, excellent shopping, and fine restaurants. Intel, Motorola, and many key employers are located within city limits so commute to work is easy and close. The city is beautiful and clean with many parks and waterways.

Living in Arizona - 6/22/2006

Chandler Arizona is a beautiful place to live. We only hoped that we could have moved before 2 years ago. We were caught up in the "mad rush". We have a beautiful home on a cul-de-sac lot 1/4 acre with a lagoon style pool and lush palm trees surrounding it. We relocated from Michigan 2 years ago, but Chrysler sold their proving grounds (5500 acres) to Toll Bros and I will be out of a job by the fall of 2007. We will probably move to Maryville Tn, where it will be much more affordable to live. They don't have meat stores here like they do in Michigan. Their fruit is not as good either. Must be the heat. They do have a lot of oranges! I guess I'm not cut out for the Western style of life. I miss the rain and working in my garage on my hot rod. You have to have air conditioning in your garage out here, it is way too hot to go into your garage during the summer months. We just jump in the pool to cool off. That's about it.

Chandler is a decent city to live in. I am a life long resident of Arizona and it seems to get hotter every year. It's time to move on.

Don't move to the Phoenix valley unless you absolu - 5/11/2006

speeding, reckless drivers; driving miles out of your way due to road construction in every direction; breathing in pollution; being scared to drive on the highway due to fear of being shot; staying indoors 8 months out of the year because it's sizzling hot outside; draught; increasing population of non-speaking folks...yes, there is more and yes, I am moving out of this state but want to write my thoughts to anyone who is considering moving here before they make the change. Yes, it IS a 100% desert. Make sure you LOVE finding black widows and scorpions in your house as well since they will be your roomies...

It IS a desert, afterall!! - 4/24/2006

While many, many people are moving into this thriving metroplex (the greater Phoenix area), they are wanting their climate and 'visual' lives to be similar to whence they come. But, this IS a desert, so we should refrain from trying to change it too much! It is supposed to be dry and not so green looking!

comments on chandler - 4/17/2006

Chandler is a booming and growing community. the schools have a relatively strong reputation, though arizona ranks horribly on a national level. there are new neigbhorhoods constantly being developed, as well as more "mature" neighborhoods filled with trees, etc. people are generally friendly, though the block walls that are standard to most properties make it much more challenging to casually get to know your neighbors - a criticism i have of the entire east valley.

sad to live here - 1/17/2006

I've lived in Chandler for 20 years and watched it turn from a caring farming community where it was safe to walk down the road at any time to a place that is overloaded and busting at the seams. It's no longer safe here and farms??? what farms, growth has moved everything away.. mountain views turned into pollution. Breathe in the brown cloud phoenix and now all of its metro areas have to offer.
