Education - 9/4/2008

Atlanta is not the best place for public education, but it does offer many private schools.

Living in a city/town - 4/23/2008

90 miles south of Atlanta - Columbus Ga sits on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Home to Ft. Benning the nation's largets infantry training center, we have a diverse culture and economy. Just under 200,000 people enjoy a conservative lifestyle in this area.

I sure wish I had saw this response before accepting my position. You are absolutely right. I hate it here only being in GA for 4 months. I moved from Newport News, VA. Want to go back as bad and congested as I thought it was getting. I was thinking of Charlotte or Raleigh but have saw the other posts and they aren't too promising either. I have not met any friendly people and no they cannot drive. They ride your bumper and it scares me to death. They know nothing about space management and I see accidents every day on I-20. Its sad.

Travel - 2/24/2008

Georgia is great because you have both the mountains and the coast all within 2-4 hours either way from Atlanta, where we live. The traffic in Atlanta is it's worst feature. However, the climate is great and cost of living is no like other big cities, so it's OK!

I moved to GA from NY and am living a dream!! - 2/7/2008

You get 3 times the house, pay 1/4 the taxes and expenses, have great weather 10 months a year and there are more jobs at the same pay (in my field). What more can a family want!!!

Atlanta is still a great place to buy a home - 1/10/2008

Home prices are going up but this is still one of the last places in the country where you can buy a home at a reasonable price.

Living in Georgia - 10/21/2007

I have lived in Georgia all of my life. In fact my ancestors came here in 1736 and many of us have elected to stay. Georgia is great because of all of the options it has available. There is a vibrant capital city, plenty of natural beauty from mountains to beaches, and wonderful people. I highly recommend visiting.

Georgia Politics - 8/17/2007

While Atlanta is the largest city in the South, with reasonably progressive policies, the State Legislature remains dominated by rural conservatives who have little love for the city and who generally therefore shortchange the metro area when it comes to disbursing state revenues.

About Georgia - 4/29/2007

Located in the South East United States, the last of the Thirteen Colonies to be founded. It is bordered by Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina, and South Carolina and the Atlantic Ocean. Area, 58,876 sq mi (152,489 sq km). Pop, (2000) 8,186,453, an 26.4% increase since the 1990 census. Capital and largest city, Atlanta. Nickname, Empire State of the South. Motto, Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation. State bird, brown thrasher. State flower, Cherokee rose. State tree, live oak. Although the trade and service sectors supply the majority of jobs in Georgia, manufacturing and agriculture remain important to the state's economy. In addition, federal facilities, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, near Atlanta; Fort Benning, near Columbus; and the Kings Bay naval base, contribute to the economy. Cotton, once Georgia's most valuable crop, has declined in importance; in the 1990s it was rivaled by peanuts, tobacco, and corn. Georgia is easily the nation's largest producer of peanuts. Tobacco is the principal crop in the central and southern sections of the state, peanuts in the southwest. Livestock and poultry raising account for the largest share of farm income; broilers, eggs, and cattle are major products. The manufacture of textiles and textile products has long been Georgia's leading industry, centering mainly around Columbus, Augusta, Macon, and Rome. Other major manufactures include transportation equipment, foods, paper products, and chemicals. Automobile manufacturing is important around Atlanta. Much of Georgia is heavily forested with pine, and the state is a leading producer of lumber and pulpwood. Although the state is rich in minerals, mining is not as important as manufacturing and agriculture. The most valuable minerals produced are clays, stone, kaolin, iron ore, sand, and gravel. Georgia is famous for its fine marble.

What are the POSITIVES about Atlanta? What is the - 2/6/2007

Due to the cost of living in S. Fla many people seem to be attracted to Atlanta. I think many are living simply cause of cost of living. I don't know if they are investigating the positives and negatives of ATL. I would be interested in the feedback from others that live there to tell me more about the culture, things to do/attractions, places to see and not just family oriented places. I'm single, meaning have no families and friends there. I've heard the negatives, WHAT ARE THE POSITIIVES? What does your city offer that others don't? What direction is ATLANTA going in ex.job growth, transportation, public parks, attractions, etc. Why should I consider your city? Do you see things changing for the better? Please keep it real
