Michigan - 8/25/2012

My husband is q Michigan native. However, he move out of the state due to his career. We now have move back to the state and have live here for 5 yrs and we have really enjoyed it. Michigan, especially the Detroit area is just like in many states, yes...the economy is slow, yes...crime has overtaken some cities, especially Detroit and some surrounding areas, yes...the school system can improve, yes:..the number of abandoned buildings are a major eyesore. Overall, this state is very beautiful. We love the nature parks and trails, the crystal clear lakes, the multicultural festivals in the summer, the easy access to Canada, which we live only 4 hrs away from Niagara Falls in the Canadian side. We love the four seasons. Bottom line, you make the place you live how you want to be. If we ever move from Michigan, we would like to move to another state the offers the same or more like it.

climate - 7/28/2012

I love Michigan. I have lived here all my life and love the four seasons. Snowmobilng in the winter, fishing and swimming in the summer. The highs you get when spring comes and the anticipation of getting the annuals planted and watching the perennials come to life. It is a great place to live.

Michigan is Home - 7/17/2012

I grew up in Michigan so it has become familiar to my family and myself. There are so many great things in Michigan and it offers one of the best school systems in our country. However, there are many changes that need to be made for Michigan to get back on a route to success. There is one thing that may never change in Michigan..... That cold, cold winter and the beautiful changes in the seasons. Michigan is home and there is no place like it.

Weather great for raindeers and santa - 7/14/2012

Although I have lived in this climate all my life, it leaves something to be desired with the cold winters and unpredictable weather during the other parts of the year. I remember it snowed in May one year. Go figure! For those who like cold weather sports such as sleding, skiing, snowmobiling, etc. .. this would be the perfect place!

Living in Michigan - 4/24/2012

It is so beautiful in Michigan, especially further north. You really appreciate the seasons since you get four. You wouldn't love winter if it wasn't for Summer . Spring wouldn't be a relief if Winter never came and the joy of flowers blooming along with a warmer breeze. You wouldn't love fall if it weren't for the changing colors on the trees. It's a great place to live as long as you're in the right city, every city, state etc... have their flaws, but if you can find a place that hasn't been run down with abandoned buildings are overtaken by crime, well that's about as close as it gets to Heaven.. in Michigan. Grew up here, only leave to visit other places.. couldn't leave for good... Fall is when I feel most at peace.

Depressing, dark, not much to do, flat, no big cit - 2/8/2012

Don't move here, trust me. I've lived in NY, NJ, NM. ALL of them were far better choices. Now I'm stuck in MI for near a decade and it feels like a decade spent wasted. I'm indoors ALL THE TIME just like every other resident. People from here try to defend this state with it's "beautiful four seasons" but come on- MOST states have clear four seasons without the extremes that michigan experiences, such as PA, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Virginia, and about a dozen more. It's as if the folks here believe fall and winter dosen't exist outside this state! As for wintery fun- sure, if you own a snowmobile or live near where there are man made mountains for skiing, because there is no mountains in michigan. I've barely even seen 4 hills, and I've been up and down, west and east across the entire state. I've been to every "major" city and there's just nothing here folks. There's a few pockets with money and shopping etc, like Auburn hills, but you have to have loads of money to live there- and why would you, really, when you can live in California or somewhere more pleasant for the same cost?! I live outside Ann Arbor. Ann Arborites have a superiority complex because they feel they are "so cultured" due to the University being here. But I work with the university for 8 years. Great as it is- ALL the students MOVE out of state upon graduating. Why is that? Because there is no jobs and no one wants to live here with actual skills. It's gray all the time- there's less than 100 sunny days a year. The winters are between 5-and 7 months long, and the summers are so humid and mosquito ridden you'll hide inside then too. Snow? that actually dosen't happen much around here. I am shocked after a near decade to report that out of all the states I've lived, (except NM) I've seen far less snow here than anywhere else. The lakes are pretty, sure- but LOTS of states have lakes, by the thousands- take NY for example, or the ocean coastline in New England. There is nothing here. NOTHING. The only people that love it here have family. That's understandable. If you don't, take you're money (By the way, Ann Arbor is as expensive as Parts of NYC to live in) elsewhere.

Leave Detroit - 9/27/2011

Detroit, Michigan has to be the worst place to live, property taxes has sky rocketed, unemployment rate is the highest and not to mention the crime. The weather is horrible, I'm older now and trying to relocate to a better place to live.

Not bad..... - 8/18/2011

I have spent my whole childhood in MI and its a little dull and boring. But comparetively, this is a nice state cuz when you look at Kansas (yawn) or Illinois (also yawn) you'll appreciate going to Lake Michigan's many gorgeous beaches, many golf courses, our gorgeous upper peninsula and the countless inland lakes. You will also find that this state is much more forested than many other states in the midwest. But unfortunately the winters can run pretty long like for instance we got 6 inches of snow at the end of April this year....and the only other draw back to this state is the bad economy....so jobs are harder to find right now. But overall im fairly happy to be in Michigan.

Wonderful state if you enjoy all four season's. There is always something to do outside. If you don't like the weather just wait 10 minuets it may get worse.

Slowly Growing Economy! And Some Other Stuff! :)) - 8/14/2010

It may shock you, but before I've heard the highest unemployment rate of the nation was Michigan before, with 15.1 percent unemployment. That rate is now 13.2 percent, slowly growing economy. We finally rank second now, Nevada is now 1.0 percent above us, Nevada is horrible! But Michigan IS getting better, but I don't understand why people have to move away permanently. The scenery here is BEAUTIFUL, with tons of trees and hills and a wide variety of nature. Northern Lower Michigan is pretty suburban and VERY quiet. I camp near Luzerne, Michigan, and me and my family have a cabin in Canada Creek Ranch in Montmerency County. I live in Genessee County, Flushing to be exact. I know what your thinking: FLINT! I live on the eastern side of Flushing but Flushing really is that bad. Most of the other city have some descent crime but Flushing really isn't one of them. Lately there has been some abnormal events, but it's summer and us kids love to cause trouble because we get more bored than adults at work. Flint is the 5th most dangerous city, according to crime ratings of cities in 2009. Detroit ranks 4th, down from 1st and other former rankings. Yet again Detroit is extreme poverty, we have to give them a little slack since the unemployment rate is crazy and the auto industry is failing, we need to diversify our economy, NOW! Flint is just Flint though, it's terrible there, I heard they were going to bring in the swat team it got so bad. Murders, assaults... it's horrible and makes you really scared of going there. Heck, they just got a serial killer in Flint. But I heard he did some real bad murders in Virgina as well and possibly Ohio, but I'm not sure. I know Michigan and Virginia for a fact, but Ohio I'm not positive. You should move here when the economy gets better! Many couples have moved here for weddings, saw it on the news! Maybe you should move to Grand Rapids or Flushing, like me! Well that's all for now, I may post some comments about others states n' stuff. Later!

Beautiful state, horrible economy. Welfare program encourages people from other states to move here for welfare, no incentive to work and jobs are very few and far between for those who do want to work. It is sad because it is beautiful here but no incentive to stay.

Not for the faint of heart - 2/3/2010

Michigan is a state of extremes. It can be very cold in the winter and very warm and humid in the summer. These climate extremes should not be taken lightly when deciding to move to or visit Michigan.

Great Lakes, Great Times, Great Quality of Life - 1/13/2010

I've lived in Northern and Southeastern Michigan, as well as other various states in the country. Michigan has the best of it all. Nature, culture, affordabale housing, and great sports teams!
