Review of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Rellocation
Star Rating - 3/26/2013
I may relocate to Oklahoma City due to a job offer and I wanted to learn more about this city before I make a decision. I am a black man with a wife and a daughter and one of my concerns is race relations and a good place to raise my daughter and wanted some opinions before I make the leap. I am coming from the Baltimore, MD area.

Thanks in advance for reading.

I think there is racism everywhere. The bigger cities are much more diverse than the small towns. We have a few very large military bases so newcomers are always moving in and many choose to stay after they retire. We are a poor state. Our government is more concerned with an extreme conservative agenda than with fixing our roads, paying teachers a decent wage or helping people out of poverty. It's a very religious state and if you are a liberal you will have to learn to bite your tongue. People are very friendly here and always willing to give directions, hold open a door for you, etc. it's a great place to raise a family. And people here love sports, especially football and our new NBA team. There are some beautifully restored neighborhoods in downtown Oklahoma City but most choose to live in suburbs like Edmond (best public schools), Norman (big college town), Moore (practically in ruins from the most recent tornado), Mustang and Choctaw (new growth, but more rural). Good luck in your decision!
