Review of Kenosha, Wisconsin

Nice town, but
Star Rating - 12/3/2009
Kenosha has become a bedroom community. Hope you spend a lot of time in there, or like long commutes to Milwaukee or Chicago areas.

I was reared in Kenosha but I have spent about 30 of the last 40 years away from there. It's a modest and average Midwesterner city that provides a modest and average lifestyle for most of its' residents. I still think the place has the best pizza in the world and most of the natives have a live and let live attitude towards the world. The lake is an asset, as well as the Metra line to Chicago. If you dig deeper you can find the Kenoshans who were the ancient or original Kenoshans. My family were Irish pioneers who settled in the area around 1848. The city once was a rich tapestry of ethnic conclaves: Irish, German, Polish & Italian. Joe Louis used to train there, Al Capone hung-out at a speakeasy on 52nd Avenue, the last hanging occurred there, and it was a wide open city for gambling under the tutelage of Ollie O'Mara and Ralph Capone.
