Depends on where you live - 4/4/2017

I live in a small town at the very edge of Little Rock and I love where I live. Having said that, there are places in Arkansas (especially in LR) that I would not live, even if the rent was free. My small community is a truly ideal small town. My only complaint is the heat and humidity, which can be unbearable in the summer. A person can walk from their office to their car in the parking lot and need a change of clothes. It is REALLY unbearable, at sometimes 105+ and very high humidity. Winters are not horrible, with probably an average of 3 days per year of snow in central Arkansas. BUT - there are some beautiful places for scenery, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing. We have really beautiful natural springs and lakes, as well as some really nice man-made lakes. If you enjoy hiking, mountain climbing, lake activities, etc., you will really enjoy it here. Unless heat bothers you. Then you might just want to vacation here in spring and fall.

School Districts - 1/6/2016

I am seeing some reviews that Arkansas is the worst place to be for jobs, and out of all the cities Springdale is the absolute worse, the school district is made up of don't speak English fools, that like to stab people in the back. If you are a teacher or administration looking for a job stay away from Springdale school district they suck, they treat people like dogs!! and if you try to bite back, you get sent to the dog pound. This town is gung ho about their sports program they will build 20 million dollar buildings but don't have the room for preschoolers even after they build the school, I have never seen so much money wasted in my life.

Most Dangerous City Under 200,000 - 2/24/2015

Little Rock, Arkansas is the #1 Most Dangerous Small City in America according to the 2014 data released by the FBI. Little Rock has moved up by four spots to #1 on the list after coming in at #5 last year. The city’s overall violent crime rose from approximately 1,315/100,000 people in 2012 to 1,407/100,000 people in 2013; this increase is responsible for Little Rock’s rise on the list. However, there may be some good news. While Little Rock’s overall violent crime rate is up, the murder rate is down by almost 22 percent. Violent Crime Rate: 1,407/100,000 people | Murder Rate: 18/100,000 people Population: 197,399 | Officer to Population Ratio: 1:354 Median Household Income: $45,135 | Pop. Below Poverty Line: 18.2% Rank in 2013: #5

arkansas - 10/30/2014

If you want a quiet, cheap place to live, with a moderate climate (mostly warm, hot for 30-60 days, cold for 30-60), come here and bring your own money. Getting a job here is difficult, pay is terrible. If you weren't 'born n raised here', they don't want to talk to you, let alone hire you. Ignorance and closed-mindedness is rampant--nobody believes any ideas unless they come from the church, the bible or Fox news. "Obama is to blame for everything". Have their heads in the sand and refuse to pull it out. (northeast arkansas location)--oh, and better be white and speak hillbilly english.

Yep - 7/9/2013

Benton, and Arkansas in general, is a pretty backwards place. I have lived here all my life and these are a few of the things I've learned. People here are extremely conservative and judgmental. Most Arkansans love Jesus but hate your guts. Especially if you are gay, a Democrat,non-protestant or non-white. There is little to no opportunity here. Even with a degree a high paying job will be hard to find. (BTW 50,000 is considered a really good salary) Because most of the residents are xenophobic, if they don't know ya, they won't hire ya! Think minimum wage for 80-90% of jobs. Also this is a right to work state so unions are useless. If you do have money to buy something don't forget the tax. Sales tax and income tax are higher than the national average. The only places to shop are big chain stores and metro areas are far apart, so expect a drive. (Gas is NOT cheap either.) Housing IS cheap but the housing is mostly crap. Lots of mobile homes, meth houses and houses that have been stripped by meth addicts. Sometimes one house will fit all three of these categories. (Lucky you) Also remember that Arkansas is in tornado ally. In bad weather experts tell you to leave your trailer and find a nearby ditch, if you don't drown it's safer, get the picture? Methamphetamine addiction is a big problem state wide. You have to sign for over the counter cough medicine and occasionally a meth lab will explode in your neighborhood. Last but certainly not least is the weather. Expect hot and humid summers with periods of drought. Short but often violent winters featuring ice storms that knock out electricity and transportation for days. Spring and Fall are really too short to even bother describing. So there you have it, all the reasons you should not move to Arkansas for any reason. Me personally, I'm off to Tacoma.

Small.....smallll town. Yet great to raise a famil - 5/31/2010

If you like lots of shopping at your finger-tips without driving an hour or so you may not like it here. However, it's not a half bad plce to be. We have nice clean Lakes, rivers, golfing horseback riding, about na hour from Branson Mo. a population of only 1,300 ppl. approx. were sandwiched in between two other slightly larger towns, Mountain Home Ar. pop approx. 14,000, and Harrison Ar. pop. approx. 10,000. Very safe places to live. People here are nice, helpful, and the joke here is its a bit like Mayberry! haha. I happen to be a Realtor, and because of my ethics would NEVER mislead anyone as to how nice this area actually is. I grew up here. It's clean. It's safe, The people are nice, and It's home.

Arkansas - A Home Away From Home! - 1/8/2010

I have found Hot Springs, Arkansas to be a wonderful place to live. It's not only very beautiful, but the crime rate is very low. Another thing that is low is the cost of living! And, it's only a forty-five min drive to Little Rock. There's many nice, friendly people and if you love to fish and hike, then Hot Springs is the place to be!

Arkansas' natural beauty - 8/1/2009

I'm a Texas transplant to Arkansas, work in Little Rock, live in Benton 4+ years. I love living outside LR, the houses are less expensive, and I feel safe in my quiet, little neighborhood. Arkansas as a whole is beautiful, with lots of mountains & rolling hills, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, etc. The weather here is nice, hot summers & cool in fall & winter. For someone who grew up with extremely mild coastal winters, I love that it snows here about once a year.

Northwest Arkansas - 9/27/2008

The climate of this area is particularly rainy all year round. There are some threats of hurricanes, which develop in Northwest Oklahoma and may pass over NWA. On the upside, the area is developing, as it is the home office of Walmart, who brings businesses into the area. Large shopping centers are located in Fayetteville and Rogers.

NorthWest Arkansas is Alright! - 8/22/2008

I was raised here in Rogers, Arkansas but i recently moved to Bentonville. I enjoy living here in this area of the state. There not might be not much to do but you can still enjoy the pretty parks and lakes! There are great night clubs to go to on weekends! The jobs are endless... Homes are afortable! Apartments are very nice! There's people from all over! The schools are like no other. I graduated from Rogers High School. I really did enjoy the their school system. Now i'm working in a school in Rogers as a translater! I highly recommend the Northwest area!
