Family friendly - 2/14/2024

Katy is so nice. It is spread out in the typical Houston way, but I really enjoyed all of the Asian restaurants, shopping, and churches. Great place to raise a family.

Harmony Science Academy West Houston - 2/18/2016

My kids has been it this school since it opened. It was great at first until they kept changing hands in principle. They had great plans but never get carried out. The following are my own experiences and why I don't like it. - The current principle Ms. Koli is the worst out of all of the principles. I took the matters to her regarding no teacher were hired for one of the classes. She was so defensive instead of addressing my concern, she slashed out on us and told us the school doesn't have to tell parents anything in that matter. It's strictly "school business". She's constantly yelling at students in the lobby during dismissal (young and old) threatening the kids into obedience. I complained to other teachers and their response were, "She doesn't do that only to students!" That explains my next concern. - Teachers turnover rate is way too high. We had a lot of great teachers at first but none of them stay more than 2 years maybe. - Unorganized staffs. Everything about this school is chaotic. They were still hiring teachers 6 weeks into school. Teachers were absent but no substitute was set into place. AP books were not ordered and didn't receive them until 2 weeks before first semester was over. Same thing with the chromebooks for doing their projects and homeworks, didn't get them until I received the progress reports. Field trips got cancelled because the school forgot to rent school buses. The parents permission slip said they were going to SeaWorld, San Antonio and they ended up at Six Flags!! - Teachers and students ratio is way too high. When we went to the open house before the school was even built they told us 1:22. One of my kid's class is 29 right now. I asked the teachers and they said because they have one teacher aid which they share between 2 classes and that still falls into that ratio!. But they do have great graduation plans especially SAT prep classes as part of their curriculum. CRLP (college readiness leadership program). That's the reason for the 2 start I gave. Overall, like I said great plans with no one competent and professional enough to carry out to benefit the students. As soon as my kids take the SAT I'm pulling them out!

Katy is wonderful place to live and work! - 6/8/2015

I live in Katy since August 26, 2007. And I am so grateful to God that He blessed me by sending to live in Katy. It is much smaller than Houston, but the quality of life is much higher and people are so polite and friendly! I migrated to live in Katy from Uzbekistan (former USSR)and I think that hospitality of local people is so warm and generous. I totally disagree with negative comments about hospitality of Texans posted here. Texas is the greatest place to live and work. People are more family oriented and child-caring compared to other states. Schools are so good for kids, here they can get complete educational level. The only thing which is hard to adapt is Texan summer, which is extremely hot and intolerably humid. And therefore it is so hard to find too many people outdoors during the summer months! But winters, falls and springs are so fantastic! So if you want to become a Texan, you will have to learn how to survive and thrive in summer months. I think I have already adapted to Texan summers and I love my Katy soooo much!

Great Suburb - 4/11/2013

I have only lived here 2 yrs w/my teenager and we love it here! We moved here from Chicago. The winters are wonderfu1 but has it's downfall and very humid in summer. Katy has best schools in Houston area. The curriculum is challenging but that's what kids need. We live close to I10, variety of restaurants, shopping and not far from Houston at all. Homes/apts vary in prices but cost of living is great here! People are much more friendly here than back home. I find my life less stressful since I moved from the Windy City!!

Greater Houston Area - 11/15/2012

Because Houston did not experience the huge housing bubble of the other major metropolitan areas, we also did not experience a huge crash. You can still buy a home in the $100,000 range, never have to shovel your driveway, have a backyard pool, and enjoy great schools, great access to the top doctors in the country, and any art or entertainment your heart desires. With two major aiports Houston is just hours away from any city in North America, and the great beaches of Mexico and the caribbean

Hot and sticky in the summer, snows sometimes in the winter and can freeze long enough to kill the plants. Spring and Fall are fantastic here.

I love Katy Texas!!!!! - 3/22/2011

There is a lot to do in Katy.. The Katy mills mall is a huge shopping mall.. the schools are great. My mom and sister lives off of fry road.. We used to live smack in the center of town on Heights drive. I loved going to Katy High School.. It is a smaller high school.. I played softball for the Katy Softball league.. There are newer subdivisions and older subdivisions.. It is basically a quiet town. I miss living there because I now live in illinois and wish I could move back.. maybe some day I can! Katy is far enough away from Houston so you get the small town feel but close enough to enjoy all the attractions Houston has to offer.

So much to do, and all in your backyard (relativel - 2/23/2011

Not only does this area of Texas have amazing weather, it also offers easy access to the Gulf of Mexico, and numerous lakes and rivers for perfect water enjoyment 9 months of the year. Even when it is hot, you can still get out and do something and the weather will cooperate. Every place is air conditioned, so if you need to get out of the heat, you can. Unlike snow, heat doesn't stop you from going shopping, to the movies, to a sports event or concert, hanging out by the pool, visiting the numerous cultural attractions available in Houston (30 minute drive), or heading to the water parks. I was born and raised in Rochester, New York, so I know what I am talking about. Don't knock it until you know what it is like to live somewhere less forgiving.

Nothing to do in Katy - 9/23/2009

Katy has absolutly no culture! The only thing the people are interested in here is high school sports. In order to find anything interesting to do you have to drive at least 30 minutes into Houston.

Great Place to Call Home. - 11/17/2008

I live in West Houston, in the Katy Area. I am from NYC. Lived in Chicago, LA and Miami. So, yes I love to live in big major cities. People who post negative comments about Houston are usually folks who don't like big cities, or who expect everything to be perfect. Which we all know can't exist in ANY large mid to large size city. Overall, Houston is a great city to work and live in. The Katy area is a great suburb to live in. Interstate 10 cuts right in the middle of the Katy area, making easy to get around the metro area. The homes are mostly on the new side, and are located within master planned communites. Shopping is great. Plenty of places to eat. And Houston and all it's entertainment is just minutes away. The Katy school district is among the best in the state. Overall great place to call home.

Katy, Texas -- Growth, prosperity and near Texas' - 4/8/2008

I've lived in and around Katy for 16 years, including six years when I was in high school/college in the 1980s. Katy has grown from a small farm town into part of the Houston metropolitan sprawl. With the center of Houston projected to be near I-10 and Dairy Ashford in 10-20 years, Katy is close to the center of the action. Atmosphere is friends and respectful with high school sports taking the spotlight on game nights. Business is good; housing is still pretty strong, and the economy has slowed only slightly. Gas prices are hovering at $3.20 as of April 7, 2008, while most are paying $3.60-$4.00+ in other major cities. Total energy deregulation solutions by Ignite/Stream Energy and traditionally low home prices have made the move to Katy a gold mine. Road construction and long drives to downtown Houston are perhaps the biggest drawbacks to a suburban lifestyle if you have to drive in. Katy is among a handful of elite suburbs with above-average education systems in the Houston area. Cy-Fair, Sugar Land, The Woodlands and Clear Lake are among other standouts. Beware of high taxes throughout Texas (8.25% sales tax here), but area is warm, wonderful.

Good Place to Live - 12/16/2007

Let me start by saying every place has it's warts and Katy is no different -so if you have a mindset of finding utopia, well, Katy and 99.9% of the world will not fufill your criteria. Having said that, Katy is a very nice place to live - affordable housing, a very good school district and constant growth are just a few of the positives. Katy is a suburb of Houston, so you can enjoy the 4th largest city in America and still live in a much smaller community. As far as crime, traffic and the weather, well that depends on your mindset, after all we are not living in the 1950's so crime is a fact of life, though here it is less than within the city of Houston. Traffic is a bear but if you are resourceful you can find a way to beat sitting in traffic by using the bus park and ride system, carpool which allows the use of the high occupancy lane or move closer to your job. The weathere here? can be brutal in the summer no doubt, consistently in the 90's - rarely are the temps in the 100's as an earlier poster referenced, humidity is too high to allow for a consistent 100+ degree period. The humidity is tough - 90% is common in the summer but we are only 90 miles from the Gulf of Mexico so you do the math. Our summers last as long as the winters in the northeast but the upside is that our winters last as long as the summers in the northeast thus, temps rarely go below freezing and you can forget snow, sleet etc. which may occur once every 8 to 10 years. So, there you go not comprehensive but do keep in mind that it always comes down to your mindset - are you willing to accept some flaws and see the positives? or are you only satisfied when everything lines up with your idea of perfect?
